Job Summary
The Direct Support Professional (DSP) plays a vital role in providing compassionate care and support to individuals with disabilities or special needs. Responsibilities
- Assist clients with daily living activities (ADLs), including personal hygiene, meal preparation, and medication management.
- Implement individualized care plans tailored to each client's needs and preferences.
- Promote resident rights and advocate for the needs of clients within the facility.
- Observe and document patient behavior, progress, and any changes in condition to ensure quality care.
- Provide companionship and emotional support to enhance the quality of life for clients.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss client progress and collaborate on care strategies.
- Assist with recreational activities and community outings to encourage social interaction.
- Maintain a clean and safe environment for all residents, adhering to health and safety regulations.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development opportunities as required.
Skills
- Knowledge of caregiving practices, including long-term care techniques and hospice care principles.
- Familiarity with care plans and the ability to implement them effectively.
- Strong patient observation skills to monitor client well-being and report any concerns promptly.
- Understanding of resident rights and advocacy for individuals with disabilities.
- Certification in CPR is preferred but not required; willingness to obtain certification is essential.
- Experience working in a group home or similar setting is advantageous.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, to interact effectively with clients, families, and team members.
