At George Washington's Mount Vernon Estate, we are seeking a part-time Evening shift groundskeeper to maintain the pristine appearance of our estate. This role is responsible for ensuring the overall upkeep of historic and non-historic landscapes, trees, roads, forest paths, and property lines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain landscaped areas by raking, edging, mulching, applying weed control, and pruning.
- Clean and clear roads and fire lanes using hand tools and power equipment.
- Collect trash and recycling throughout the estate.
- Assist with storm drainage system maintenance.
- Remove fall leaves using various hand tools, tarps, blowers, and vacuums.
- Water trees, shrubs, and turf during establishment periods or droughts.
- Support construction projects by digging, mixing concrete, hauling materials, setting up fences, and operating various equipment.
- Collaborate with other departments on office moves, furniture rearrangement, and IT equipment relocation.
Requirements:
- Minimum two years of relevant experience.
- Valid driver's license.
- Experience in operating farm and turf equipment, including tractors, trimmers, mowers, and blowers.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
Physical Demands:
- Bending, lifting, squatting, pulling, and pushing, with regular walking on hills and across pasture-like terrain in all weather conditions.
- Lifting 30lbs, pushing 20lbs, dragging, carrying, loading, and unloading various items.
