OBJECTIVE

The Special Education Teacher Aide provides instructional, behavioral, and personal care support to students with disabilities under the supervision of a certified special education teacher. The aide supports the implementation of IEPs, reinforces academic and social skills, monitors student behavior, assists with personal care and mobility needs as required, and helps maintain a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

· Provide instructional support to individual students and small groups.

· Reinforce academic, behavioral, communication, social, and life skills taught by the teacher.

· Assist with the implementation of IEP goals, accommodations, modifications, and behavior intervention plans.

· Monitor and supervise students in classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, playgrounds, and other school settings.

· Promote positive behavior and assist with classroom management strategies.

· Collect and maintain student academic and behavioral data as directed.

· Prepare instructional materials and perform basic clerical duties, including copying, laminating, filing, and recordkeeping.

· Assist students with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, hygiene, dressing, and mobility support as needed.

· Alert appropriate staff to student health, safety, or behavioral concerns.

· Maintain confidentiality of student information and records.

· Attend required meetings, training, and professional development activities.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

· Ability to work effectively with students of diverse abilities and backgrounds.

· Knowledge of special education practices, accommodations, and behavior support strategies preferred.

· Ability to implement instructional and behavior management plans consistently.

· Ability to supervise students and maintain a safe, positive learning environment.

· Ability to collect and maintain accurate records and student data.

· Ability to provide personal care assistance and support student physical needs as required.

· Strong organizational, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.

· Basic computer skills, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and data entry.

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE

· High School Diploma or GED required.

 

PREFERRED EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND EXPERIENCE

· Associate degree or college coursework in education or a related field preferred.

· Experience working with children, individuals with disabilities, or in an educational setting preferred.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

· Regular attendance is required.

· Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and sit for extended periods.

· Ability to lift, transfer, reposition, and assist students as needed.

· Ability to work in classrooms, cafeterias, playgrounds, buses, and other educational environments.

· May involve occasional exposure to blood or bodily fluids.

 

Position Type: Full-Time Salary: $25,000 Per Year
