About The Department

The Donald G. Costello College of Business at George Mason University is one of the largest business schools in Virginia. Management is one of six areas within the Costello College of Business. With 11 tenure-line faculty and 5 term faculty, the Management Area has faculty with expertise in many different business topics spanning from entrepreneurship to strategy to organizational behavior. Faculty have published their work in top management journals including Administrative Science Quarterly, Strategic Management Journal, Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Business Venturing, Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, and more. The Area offers courses in relevant topics (e.g., the College’s capstone strategy course) as well as minors in entrepreneurship and international business.

About The Position

The Management Area seeks candidates for two tenure-line positions in Strategy and/or Entrepreneurship. As the Costello College of Business, we value faculty whose scholarship represents a consistent pipeline of research that:

Addresses significant problems affecting business and society; such research should have the potential for meaningful impact in terms of organizational design, firm and regulatory policy, and/or the behaviors of economic agents (e.g., consumers, employees); demonstrates the highest levels of methodological rigor, leveraging innovative qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze generalizable data representing real-world contexts and problems; is targeted for, and published in, the highest quality journals; consists of clear theoretical, contextual, or methodological themes that demonstrate the identity of the faculty member as a thought leader in their field; and showcases the unique contributions of that faculty member.

For these positions we welcome applicants whose research addresses important problems affecting business and society through a focus on strategic management, entrepreneurship, innovation, venture creation and growth, entrepreneurial strategy, technology commercialization, strategic renewal, corporate entrepreneurship, ecosystems, global strategy, economics, and other areas related to strategy.

Candidates should also demonstrate an established record of teaching effectiveness, including a commitment to course design, supporting and engaging students, and continued faculty growth as regards pedagogy. Candidates should be able to contribute to courses in strategy and/or entrepreneurship, including the College’s capstone strategy course, entrepreneurship offerings, innovation-related courses, and/or doctoral seminars. There is also significant leeway for candidates to develop their own classes and contribute to the offerings of the area.

Candidates should have consistent and clear evidence of collegiality and collaboration and be willing to contribute to various areas of service at Costello.

Responsibilities

  • Conducts impactful research for publication in top-tier academic journals;
  • Teaches Management area courses in undergraduate and/or graduate programs;
  • Provides service to the Management Area, the Costello College of Business, the University, and the profession; and
  • Be invested as a team member in helping colleagues and the College further our collective goals.

Required Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in a related field;
  • PhD or equivalent, or be ABD with a documented expectation of degree completion before the start of Fall 2027;
  • Evidence of potential to teach effectively at the undergraduate and graduate levels; and
  • An impactful research stream that changes the way we view important problems facing business and society.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Assistant Professors with three or more years of experience;
  • History of working with PhD students; and
  • Interest in exploring the use of modern technology (e.g., AI) in teaching and/or research.
