Estimator - Bridge/Infrastructure
Reports to: Senior Estimator
FLSA Status: Exempt
Hours: 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (One (1) Hour Lunch)
Job Location: 3500 Alum Creek Drive, Columbus, OH 43207- This position is primarily in person, with hybrid work capabilities.
General Overview: An Estimator contributes to the Department’s goal of maintaining a specified profitable backlog by performing estimating and sales functions. Responsibilities:
- Thoroughly reviews project documents to provide accurate take-off and consistent quantities of items of work
- Seeks input from Field Leadership and Project Management, and reviews cost history from applicable software to price items of work
- Determines, discusses, and documents project risk with appropriate stakeholders throughout the bidding process
- Provides consistent, timely, and clearly defined quotation letters with explicit references to avoid miscommunication and minimize risk to the Company
- Accurately completes bid forms
- Chases bid projects as assigned
- Re-prices work as necessary from negotiations
- Develops presentations when necessary
- Interacts with subcontractors and vendors with integrity to acquire quotes and minimize commitment
- Markets Company capabilities by developing relationships with our clients and engineers
- Seeks new work opportunities and responds to inquiries about prospective projects
- Assists Project Management and Field Leadership with projects as questions arise
- Participates in internal and external meetings including pre- and post-job meetings as required
- Reviews contracts to check scope and price, and identifies errors
- Pursues creative value engineering opportunities
- Knows and adheres to all Company policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of Estimating software, Microsoft Office applications, and Bluebeam; Skilled in being highly detail-oriented, multitasking, prioritize work assignments, and communicate effectively in person, over the phone, and in writing; ability to read and comprehend written materials, including emails, reports, and policies; Skilled in reading and interpreting construction plans, with the ability to perform intermediate math functions and use an Engineer’s scale; ability to focus and maintain concentration for extended periods while performing tasks that require attention to detail; ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks to ensure deadlines are met; must be able to remain in a stationary position at least 50% of the time; ability to move around the office to access cabinets, office machinery, attend in-person meetings. Ability to lift and carry items weighing 25 pounds or more.
Qualifications:
- Five (5) years of experience in civil construction industry preferred
- Four (4) year degree in Construction Management or related field of study preferred
- Experience in bidding on bridge and infrastructure projects is highly preferred
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening. (George J. Igel & Co., Inc. is a SUPR Drug-Free Workplace and tests for marijuana)
- Must maintain an MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) that meets the Company’s eligibility requirements
