Job Summary:
The Distribution Center Manager will lead and oversee the daily operations of the distribution facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing staff, optimizing operational efficiency, maintaining inventory accuracy, ensuring workplace safety, and meeting customer service goals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage and oversee all distribution center operations, including order review and assignment, receiving, storage, inventory control, and order fulfillment.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of hourly staff.
- Update and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to ensure productivity, accuracy, and quality standards are met or exceeded. Identify trends and take proactive steps to resolve.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols and compliance with OSHA and company safety standards.
- In coordination with the Director of Warehousing and Logistics, develop and maintain an operational budget and help identify, and facilitate the development of cost improvement initiatives and efficiency projects.
- In coordination with the Director of Warehousing and Logistics, develop and implement standard operating procedures to guide the daily operation of the distribution center. Train and hold staff accountable to these standards.
- Collaborate with other departments such as procurement, transportation, sales, operations, quality, customer service, and IT to ensure seamless service to our customers and partners.
- Ensure inventory integrity through regular audits, cycle counts, and process improvements.
- Champion the warehouse management system (WMS) becoming an expert on the daily operations required and identify opportunities to improve processes.
- Develop and analyze data and reports to identify trends, forecast needs, and make data-driven decisions.
- Handle staffing, training, and performance evaluations to maintain a skilled and engaged workforce.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management, Business, Logistics, or related field (or equivalent experience) preferred. Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., Certified Supply Chain Professional) is a plus.
- High School Diploma or GED plus significant experience as a manager of a distribution center would be considered in lieu of a bachelor’s degree.
- 5 years of experience in distribution, warehouse, or logistics operations, with 2 years in a management role.
- Strong knowledge of warehouse operations, inventory control, and logistics best practices.
- Proficiency with warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP systems, and Microsoft Office Suite. Experience with NetSuite and RF-Smart is a plus.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Experience operating a forklift or other similar machinery.
Working Conditions:
- This position requires frequent walking, standing, and lifting within a warehouse environment.
- This position may require operating a forklift, powered pallet jack, and/or manual pallet jack as necessary.
- May require occasional travel between distribution centers or corporate offices.
