George Fox University's Institutional Technology department is seeking a strategic and collaborative individual to safeguard the university's information assets and guide the strategic execution of technology initiatives through leadership of the information security program and project portfolio management processes.
About the Job:
The Director of Security and Planning works closely with campus constituents to identify, assess, and mitigate information security risks, and to ensure that technology projects are aligned with institutional priorities. This role involves supporting the development and execution of a comprehensive security roadmap and establishing a robust project management framework to support the university's mission.
In this position, the Director will shape the work of cross-functional teams to address security and project needs through the development of clear policies, effective risk management, and disciplined project execution.
Job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Developing, implementing, and managing a university-wide information security program to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of institutional data.
- Overseeing project and portfolio management for Institutional Technology, ensuring projects are prioritized, planned, and executed in alignment with strategic goals.
- Leading the university's incident response plan, including preparation, detection, analysis, containment, and post-incident activities.
- Establishing and managing the project management framework, standards, and processes for the department.
- Conducting regular risk assessments and security audits to identify vulnerabilities and ensure compliance with policies and regulations (e.g., FERPA, HIPAA).
- Facilitating the intake, prioritization, and resource planning for all technology projects in the portfolio.
- Leading change management initiatives for Institutional Technology, particularly those related to security and project implementation.
- Developing and delivering security awareness and training programs for faculty, staff, and students.
- Working closely with campus stakeholders and constituents to align university technology deliverables with stakeholder input and customer requirements.
- Organizing, leading and facilitating cross-functional project and/or task teams responsible for implementing new technology solutions.
- Providing regular reporting on the status of the information security program and the project portfolio to the CIO and key stakeholders.
- Building and maintaining partnerships throughout the campus community to support the educational and administrative needs of the institution.
- Communicating effectively and courteously with others, including employees, students, and the public, in a spirit of teamwork, respect and customer service.
- By actions, words, and lifestyle, be a Christian role model to students, whether through casual contact or in a formal supervisory role.
- Demonstrated experience working cross culturally with respect, appreciation and humility.

A day in the life of this position:
Each day the Director of Security and Planning will work with technical teams to assess and mitigate security risks, while also collaborating with campus leaders to prioritize and plan technology projects. Through their work they will build relationships to understand institutional priorities, ensuring that security measures are integrated into all technology initiatives and that projects are delivered on time, within scope, and on budget. In addition, this leader will work closely with other units within Institutional Technology to apply continuous improvement to department operations, security protocols, and project management methodologies.
We're looking for candidates who have:
- A Bachelor's degree or further education.
- A combination of education and experience that prepares you to be a successful leader of technical projects and security initiatives.
- Experience with information security principles, risk assessment, and incident response.
- Experience with project portfolio management methodologies (e.g., Agile, PMP).
- Familiarity with security frameworks (e.g., NIST, CIS) and relevant regulations.
- The ability to work independently on complex projects, to identify and delegate tasks and to determine progress toward critical milestones.
- Communication skills that allow you to engage with business leaders and technical teams both verbally and in writing.
- Strong listening skills and a collaborative approach to leadership.
- Critical thinking skills and a logical approach to identify strengths and weaknesses of varied solutions.
- The ability to explain complex and technical concepts in plain language.
