Role Description
Field Inspector / Construction Materials Senior Technician
Location: Plano, TX
Employment Type: Full-Time, On-Site
The Field Inspector / Construction Materials Senior Technician is responsible for conducting on-site inspections and overseeing field and laboratory testing of construction materials—including soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregates, and masonry—to ensure compliance with project specifications, engineering standards, and applicable regulations.
This role combines hands-on fieldwork, technical expertise, and quality assurance oversight. The position involves performing detailed inspections, documenting field conditions, preparing comprehensive reports, and ensuring all testing and inspection activities meet project and regulatory requirements. The Senior Technician will also provide guidance to junior team members and collaborate closely with project engineers, contractors, and clients to ensure accurate and timely test results.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct field inspections to assess construction materials, workmanship, and site conditions.
- Perform and oversee laboratory and field testing on concrete, asphalt, soil, and aggregates.
- Document field activities and prepare detailed inspection and testing reports.
- Ensure compliance with ASTM, AASHTO and other applicable standards.
- Calibrate, maintain, and operate testing and inspection equipment.
- Communicate findings to clients, contractors, and project managers, addressing non-conformances and corrective actions.
- Lead and mentor junior technicians, ensuring adherence to safety and quality protocols.
- Participate in client and project coordination meetings as required.
Qualifications
- Strong attention to detail and excellent observational skills.
- Experience in site inspections, materials testing, and field documentation.
- Familiarity with construction materials standards and regulatory requirements.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and handle multiple field assignments.
- Proficiency in inspection tools, data collection devices, and reporting software.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project and inspection sites as needed.
- Background in construction, civil engineering, or materials testing is highly desirable.
- Education and Certification Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent and ACI Level 1 Certification with at least 3 years of field experience, or
- EIT (Engineer-in-Training) degree.
- NICET Level II certification in Construction Materials Testing is an asset and will be considered in determining final compensation.
