Environmental Health & Safety Manager 

The EHS Manager supports the oversight of company compliance with environmental, health & safety standards at all local, state, and federal levels to ensure employees have a safe working environment that is free of recognized hazards and prevents EHS compliance penalties and workers’ compensation claims. The EHS Manager will utilize regional analytical data points for GEODIS & Temporary OSHA Incident Rate, Workers Compensation Reserves, and Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) incidents to apply the EHS strategic direction and develop an EHS culture throughout the region. This position is responsible for ensuring warehouse EHS for multiple facilities within multiple states with the support of Corporate EHS training & education, documentation, audits, hazard assessments, injury & incident tracking, and reporting. The EHS Manager will support the setup and sustainability of ISO 45001 Occupational Health & Safety management systems standard.

Your role on the team:   

  • Provides support to other personnel in EHS-related areas
  • Ensures employees are trained in proper safety protocol according to regulations and company policies
  • Reduces the number of job-related injuries
  • Reduces the number of Powered Industrial Truck incidents
  • Collects & communicates near-miss data and preventive findings
  • Plans and readies for ISO 45001 Health & Safety standard implementation
  • Performs Hazard Assessments and communicates the findings
  • Coordinates the Return to Work program & work comp claims management with the Worker’s Compensation Administrator
  • Collects reporting information to maintain EHS trackers to support the Compliance Administrator in producing EHS analytics for incident and injury trends
  • Communicates with the Workers’ Compensation Administrator to collect annual injury data to fulfill reporting requirements to the Bureau of Labor at state and federal levels
  • Ensures employees are trained in proper EHS new hire training according to company policies & regulatory requirements
  • Presents EHS training, education, and awareness programs to employees and management
  • Enforces the EHS corporate strategy and policy direction
  • Ensures compliance with DOT, EPA, and OSHA regulations
  • Conducts annual compliance audits for company and federal EHS validation
  • Communicates updates and resets training standards to DOT, EPA, & OSHA regulatory law changes
  • Monitors monthly safety meetings
  • Trains corporate trainers to support each facility with required EHS training
  • Supports other safety managers, safety supervisors, and safety coordinators to fulfill the EHS Strategy
  • Creates, develops, and writes regulatory training content for EHS new hire, refresher, and targeted training for employees and staff
  • Collects reporting information for environmental and extremely hazardous substance information for EPA Tier-II and EPA reporting requirements
  • Oversees the collection and reporting of extremely hazardous substances (EHS), including tracking small and large quantity hazardous facilities
  • Coordinates with Operations on communal health issues presented to the facilities by employees to collaborate with reporting and responding to health hazards
  • Monitors EPA new hire and refresher Haz-Waste and Haz-Woper training
  • Supports implementation and solutions with new business for startup processes
  • Guides operations with EPA, DOT, and EPA site inspections for citation and penalty prevention
  • Collects key information for OSHA regulatory injury reporting for amputation, death, or hospitalization

 

What you need:

  • Minimum 4 years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Working knowledge of the following: CFR29 Labor (OSHA), CFR40 Environment (EPA), and CFR49 Transportation (DOT)
  • Knowledge in the storage, handling, and shipping of hazardous materials
  • Knowledge of NFPA regulations regarding flammable liquids, corrosives, etc.  
    • PC literate to include Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel and Outlook 
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, technical procedures, or governmental regulations  
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals  
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and co-workers  
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists  
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form
