What are the responsibilities and job description for the Accounting Assistant position at GEOCAL?
About Us:
Geocal, established in 1989, is a Colorado-based engineering and construction services firm. Our team is committed to providing high-quality solutions that benefit the communities we serve. We specialize in transportation and infrastructure projects, working with municipalities, CDOT, and multiple airports across Colorado's Front Range. We are growing our team and are excited to help you build your career in this dynamic industry!
Full time position available for the right person. We are looking for someone with well-rounded accounting skills, to be responsible for all aspects of accounting for our office. The job is in-person and it is highly recommended that you have experience with an engineering or construction company.
Geocal is a small (but growing) engineering firm, with our home office in Centennial, CO. We have been in business for 36 years, with small offices in Colorado Springs and Oklahoma, but all accounting is handled from the Centennial office. As we are a small group, it is important to us to find someone who is the right cultural fit for this position.
Accounting duties include, but are not limited to the following:
- Client invoicing
- Accounts Payable
- Accounts Receivable
- Working with project managers on new job setup, project reporting, budgets
- Employee expenses
- Job costing
- Figuring overhead costs for work with government entities
- Payroll processing and taxes
- Monthly and annual financial statements
- Financial reports for managers and owners
- Assisting in costs for project proposals
- Answering phones and other office duties
Geocal uses Deltek Vision accounting software – prior experience with Deltek would be helpful (but not required), as well as being familiar with engineering and/or construction.
This individual needs to be detail-oriented, flexible, able to respond quickly and handle pressure when under a deadline, yet able to prioritize and spread out the workload to stay productive in times when the work is light. We have a small administrative staff, and everyone helps each other, and cross-trains to cover work when someone is out. This means that there is no such thing as doing “only” accounting functions. You will also need to answer phones, perhaps make copies, post the mail, or help set up for a company meeting. Every person who works at Geocal performs a vital function, and as such, we consider all employees to be stakeholders, as they all have a stake in the health and welfare of the company.
Are you a stakeholder? Do you take ownership of your work, focused on getting the desired results and then figuring out how to do it better and more efficiently? Do you want to help grow the company and have your opinion count? Do you believe in doing something meaningful and rewarding, not just punching a time clock to get a paycheck? If so, you may be the person we are looking for.
The person for this position is motivated, positive, willing to take on challenges, and wants to help others succeed. He/she is always interested in “why” – why we do things the way we do, and if there is a better way to do it.
If this sounds like you, please send us 3 things: a cover letter, your resume, and 3 to 5 business references that we can call. The cover letter needs to tell us about you. Please answer the following questions:
- Why do you believe you would be a good fit for this position?
- What would you get out of working here?
- What do you want to get out of life (career is a big part of life – how does it fit in)?
- What are your greatest strengths that you would bring to this position?
- What do you need from us to be successful? Remember, it needs to fit your needs, not just ours.
- If salary is an important part of this decision, what amount do you need to be comfortable in accepting a position with Geocal?
- Are there any other items you would like to mention that would be pertinent to our decision? Anything that isn’t reflected in your resume?
We thank you for your interest in working with us!
