Responsibilities
Summary
This position organizes and facilitates programs to provide education for conditions and problems relating to drug and alcohol abuse and cognitive behavior.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides relevant substance abuse and cognitive behavior information in a classroom-like environment.
- Facilitates and co-facilitates educational presentations and group counseling on substance abuse and cognitive behavior matters.
- Reviews and recommends instructional materials and programs for use in the substance abuse cognitive behavior programs.
- Maintains knowledge of new developments in the field of substance abuse and cognitive behavior.
- Maintains professional relationships with other substance abuse professionals, programs, and associations.
- Participates in related training for substance abuse and cognitive behavior.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent certification required. Bachelor's degree in a related area preferred.
- Ability to obtain certification in Thinking for Change (T4C) within the three (3) months of employment.
- Relevant teaching or counseling experience in a correctional setting preferred.
- Working knowledge of the Twelve Step Program of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous.
- Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group counseling settings.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with a team of professionals and have the ability to implement team strategy approaches to work assignments.
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
