Responsibilities
Summary:
The Substance Abuse Counselor provides inpatient treatment for a caseload of incarcerated individuals, conducts substance abuse assessments and evaluations, mental health assessments, development of a individualized substance abuse treatment plans, group therapy, individual therapy, documentation, discharge planning, transition planning and psych-educational groups using evidenced-based curriculum.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Substance Abuse Counselor facilitates and co-facilitates didactic educational presentations, group counseling, and individual counseling sessions.
- Maintains knowledge of new developments in the field of substance abuse.
- Ability to work with other professionally as a team.
- The Substance Abuse Counselor completes required testing, assessment, and psychosocial history on incoming residents as required.
- Participates in related training for substance abuse.
- Ability to meet required timelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Graduated from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a Bachelor's Degree. Masters degree preferred.
- Must possess (CAP) with bachelor's degree
- Working knowledge of substance abuse treatment.
- Preference given to experience within a correctional setting and/or Therapeutic Treatment Modality.
- Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group counseling settings with residents and peers.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
