What are the responsibilities and job description for the Dietitian position at Gentiva?
We’re looking for a Registered Dietitian to join our team, offering specialized dietary assessment and education for patients and families. In this role, you will ensure nutritional care is aligned with patient preferences, clinical needs, and the overall plan of care—helping to provide comfort and dignity at every stage.
What You’ll Do as a Hospice Dietitian:
Provide dietary counseling and assessment for patients receiving hospice services
Evaluate nutritional status and recommend appropriate interventions to promote comfort and support end-of-life goals
Educate patients, families, and caregivers on nutrition and feeding options based on the individualized plan of care
Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team—including nurses, social workers, chaplains, and physicians—to provide integrated support
Participate in care planning conferences and contribute to the overall patient care strategy
Document all nutritional assessments and recommendations in the patient’s medical record in compliance with agency policies
Required Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, dietetics, or a related field from an accredited college or university
Current, unencumbered license as a Registered Dietitian in the state of practice
Strong communication skills and the ability to educate and counsel patients and families in a sensitive, supportive manner
Previous experience working with terminally ill or geriatric patients is preferred
Preferred Experience:
At least one year of experience in a hospice, palliative care, or clinical nutrition setting
Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary care teams in a healthcare environment
Familiarity with special diets related to chronic illness, dysphagia, or end-of-life care
