POSITION: SECURITY PERSONNEL
Location: Geneva High School
Day Shift 6:00am - 2:30pm Monday - Friday
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 12 Months – 40 hour work week as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Must have High School diploma or equivalent
2. Previous experience in law enforcement or security background at other institutions and firms
preferred
3. Previous Crisis Prevention Institute: Nonviolent Intervention Training or other De-Escalation
Training preferred, or willing to be certified at the beginning of your employment
4. Work is light, with considerable walking, sitting and standing
5. Visual sharpness needed when performing rounds and building security
6. Able to read, write and verbally communicate with administration and staff
7. Able to lift up to 50 lb. (athletic equipment, furniture, etc.) of that weight
8. Able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
9. Must have a current and valid Illinois driver’s license
10. Able to effectively navigate and operate smartphone, computer and district software
11. Must be CPR/AED certified, or be certified in the first six months of employment
REPORTS TO: Safety and Security Coordinator
JOB GOAL: Maintain a safe and secure environment. Balance the need to protect students, staff,
community, and property with the desire to create an environment that remains conducive to learning
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
⮚ Perform all other tasks as assigned by the Director of Facility Operation and/or Safety and
Security Coordinator
⮚ Be available on-call 24 hours/7 days a week to respond to any school district emergency
situations
⮚ Easily adjust to emergencies or other unusual circumstances that require making changes in
schedules
⮚ Assist with checking visitors in using the Raptor Visitor Management System when
needed
⮚ Patrol District and/or assigned building and grounds to prevent fire, theft, vandalism, drug use
and illegal entry
⮚ Patrol school grounds to detect unauthorized persons or vehicles
- Check cars for parking authorization
- Determine if vehicles are parked in restricted areas such as near fire hydrants or in
driveways/bus lane
- Check exterior lighting and emergency access routes
⮚ Report any unusual conditions or malfunctioning of heating, plumbing, or electrical
systems
⮚ Stop and question unauthorized persons, notify the appropriate administration and police when
needed

⮚ Provide traffic or crowd control for assigned events and remain at the event until the function
is complete. Ensure that all guests and visitors have left the building
⮚ Report all unauthorized usage of buildings and grounds to the Director of Facility Operations
and/or building principals. Approach and question outside community users for proper contracts and
authorizations
⮚ Maintain an updated list for the District and/or assigned building of all facility contracts and
activities
⮚ Conduct patrol inspections of doors, roof access doors, windows, and gates to determine that
they are secure
⮚ Turn off all lights that had been inadvertently left on
⮚ Assist with supervision in high volume areas such as hallways, cafeteria, assemblies
etc.
⮚ Be a good example to students and community users as you represent the school
⮚ Familiarity with the school handbook and associated school laws
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

- Communicate with the Safety and Security Coordinator, Principal, Assistant Principal, and/or the
High School Dean of Students for daily events related to assigned areas
- Fill out security log sheets for building check and make appropriate security reports as they
arise
- Clean and maintain equipment, and District vehicle when provided.
- Report any equipment needing repair
- Promote personnel safety, safety procedures, and safe working environment.
- Enter work orders into School Dude for any deficiencies
