Genesis Technical and Industrial Staffing is seeking an experienced E&I Designer Level IV / E&I Technician to support industrial plant operations and project execution. This mid to senior-level, assignment-specific role combines electrical and instrumentation design with hands-on plant maintenance, troubleshooting, calibration, field support, and project coordination.
The ideal candidate can work independently on complex assignments, lead or guide junior personnel, and deliver safe, code-compliant, constructible electrical and instrumentation solutions in an operating industrial environment.
Core Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical and instrumentation systems, including switchgear, relay protection, motor control centers (MCCs), VFDs, lighting, grounding, power distribution, field instrumentation, and controls documentation.
- Produce and maintain E&I deliverables such as one-lines, wiring diagrams, loop sheets, block diagrams, panel layouts, cable/conduit routing, equipment layouts, and as-built documentation.
- Use AutoCAD extensively; experience with CADWorx 3D and Navisworks is preferred.
- Conduct field walks and collect site data for new designs, maintenance planning, troubleshooting, and as-built updates.
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance; inspect, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, and repair electrical controls, instrumentation, and electronic equipment as required by the client assignment.
- Support failure analysis, root-cause investigations, reliability improvements, spare-parts identification, and equipment/documentation file maintenance.
- Coordinate with engineering, maintenance, operations, crafts, and civil/structural, piping, process, and mechanical disciplines to develop practical, clash-free, constructible solutions.
- Review work completed by junior designers or technicians for technical accuracy and compliance with standards.
- Monitor project schedules and budgets, communicate scope changes, and provide project-related technical leadership.
- Follow plant safety rules, applicable codes and standards, Process Safety Management (PSM), and Management of Change (MOC) requirements.
Target Profile
- 8 years of industrial electrical/instrumentation design, E&I maintenance, EPC, or closely related experience.
- High school diploma/GED plus an associate degree, technical degree, CADD certification, or equivalent relevant training and experience; bachelor’s degree is a plus.
- Required: NCCER Electrical Certification Plus and NCCER Instrumentation Certification Plus.
- Strong industrial experience with electrical distribution, controls, field instrumentation, drawings, schematics, and plant equipment.
- Advanced AutoCAD proficiency required; CADWorx 3D and Navisworks experience preferred.
- Comfortable troubleshooting electrical and instrumentation systems using diagnostic tools for voltage, current, resistance, temperature, and related inputs.
- Experience with instrument/control valves and digital, analog, and pneumatic positioners is preferred.
- Familiarity with SAP or other maintenance/data systems and Microsoft Office.
- Able to read and interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs/related documentation, schematics, and electrical/instrumentation design packages.
- Proven ability to work autonomously, prioritize multiple assignments, communicate effectively with plant personnel and project teams, and provide technical direction when needed.
Working Conditions: This role includes office-based design work and regular work in operating plants and construction environments. Candidates must be able to wear required PPE, complete site walks, climb stairs or ladders as needed, tolerate industrial conditions, and occasionally lift up to 25 pounds.
