Genesis Sod Farms is seeking a skilled and dependable Lead Diesel Mechanic to oversee the maintenance, performance, and reliability of all harvesting equipment and trucks.

This is a leadership, hands-on role responsible for keeping operations running efficiently across the farm, harvest crews, and delivery fleet. The right candidate will take ownership of the shop, equipment, and preventative maintenance systems.

Key Responsibilities

· Oversee and maintain all equipment, including:

o Semi-trucks & trailers

o Skid steers, loaders, and farm equipment

· Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical issues

· Develop and manage a preventative maintenance program

· Prioritize and schedule repairs to minimize downtime during harvest and delivery

· Respond to breakdowns in the field when necessary

· Track and log:

o Repairs

o Maintenance schedules

o Parts and inventory

· Manage shop organization and efficiency

· Coordinate closely with operations and management on equipment readiness

Leadership Expectations

· Take full ownership of equipment performance and uptime

· Communicate proactively about issues, timelines, and needs

· Help create systems for tracking maintenance and costs

· Hold a high standard for organization and accountability in the shop

· Support operators in proper equipment use and care

Qualifications

· Strong experience with diesel engines and heavy equipment

· Proven ability to diagnose and solve complex mechanical issues

· Knowledge of hydraulics, electrical systems, and trailers

· Ability to work independently and lead the function without constant oversight

· Experience in farm or construction environments preferred

Work Environment

· On-site at the farm with shop access at Fortville, IN

· Combination of shop work and field repairs

· Fast-paced during peak harvest season

· Exposure to weather, dirt, and dust

Compensation & Benefits

· Full-time position

· $28-$35 per hour, depending on experience

· Bonus / Tool Allowance

· 15 days Paid Time Off (PTO)
