General Laborer- Tie Plate

We are seeking a Tie Plate Laborer performs manual labor to support railroad track construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation projects. This position involves installing and removing tie plates, replacing railroad ties, handling track materials, operating hand and power tools, and assisting equipment operators to ensure railroad tracks meet safety and operational standards.

Qualifications:

Ability to perform manual labor for railroad track construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation tasks
- Ability to install and remove railroad tie plates and related hardware
- Ability to replace railroad ties and assist with proper alignment and spacing
- Ability to safely handle, load, unload, and transport track materials (ties, plates, fasteners, ballast)
- Ability to operate assigned hand tools and power tools (e.g., wrenches, drills, cutting tools) while following safety procedures
- Ability to perform basic track preparation tasks such as cleaning, leveling, and clearing debris
- Ability to assist equipment operators with spotter duties, guiding movements, and maintaining clear work zones
- Ability to perform basic mechanical tasks as directed, including securing components and verifying fit
- Ability to inspect work for visible defects and confirm materials are installed correctly to meet safety and operational standards
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions, work plans, and job specifications
- Ability to maintain accurate simple records as required (e.g., material counts, work completed, time logs)
- Strong knowledge of and commitment to railroad and site safety rules, including PPE use, hazard identification, and safe lifting practices
- Ability to communicate effectively with crew members and supervisors to coordinate tasks and resolve issues
- Ability to maintain tools and equipment in good working condition and promptly report damage or malfunctions
- Reliable attendance and punctuality to support project schedules

Responsibilites:

- Install and remove railroad tie plates and related hardware to support track construction, maintenance, and rehabilitation
- Replace damaged or worn railroad ties and assist with proper alignment and spacing
- Handle, load, unload, and transport track materials (e.g., ties, plates, fasteners, ballast) safely and efficiently
- Assist equipment operators by performing spotter duties, guiding movements, and maintaining clear work zones
- Operate hand tools and power tools as assigned (e.g., wrenches, drills, cutting tools) following safety procedures
- Perform basic track preparation tasks such as cleaning, leveling, and clearing debris from work areas
- Support load adjustment and mechanical tasks as directed, including securing components and verifying fit
