Shipping and Receiving Specialist

About the Role:

Genesis is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Shipping & Receiving Specialist to support daily shipping, receiving, delivery, and inventory related operations. This position will be responsible for processing incoming and outgoing shipments, maintaining accurate receiving documentation, entering information into Deltek Costpoint, and transporting packages between facilities and customer locations, including NASA Goddard Space Flight Center.

The ideal candidate is organized, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, and able to handle highly sensitive and valuable materials with care and accuracy.

Minimum Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent.


• Previous shipping, receiving, warehouse, logistics, or material handling experience preferred.


• Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and basic spreadsheet functions.


• Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate records.


• Ability to scan, file, and organize electronic and physical documentation.


• Ability to safely lift and move packages weighing up to 40 lbs.


• Must possess a valid driver’s license and be able to transport packages between locations.


• Must be able to successfully complete a background check and meet requirements to obtain a government issued identification badge for access to government facilities.


• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


• Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.


• Dependable and punctual, with the ability to maintain the required Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM schedule.

Responsibilities:

• Receive, inspect, and check in incoming packages and materials for accuracy, quantity, and condition.


• Handle highly sensitive and valuable equipment and materials with appropriate care.


• Enter receiving and shipment information accurately into Deltek Costpoint.


• Prepare, package, label, and process outgoing shipments using UPS and FedEx.


• Coordinate and prepare larger shipments for freight and LTL carriers.


• Track incoming and outgoing shipments and maintain accurate shipping and receiving records.


• Scan, organize, and file shipping, receiving, and other supporting documentation.


• Maintain and update Microsoft Excel spreadsheets used for shipment tracking and departmental records.


• Transport packages and materials between company buildings and designated locations.


• Deliver packages and materials to customer locations, including NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, as required.


• Communicate with internal employees, customers, carriers, and delivery drivers regarding shipment and delivery status.


• Maintain an organized and safe shipping and receiving work area.

The required skills for this position include strong attention to detail, which is essential for accurately inspecting shipments and maintaining inventory records. Effective communication skills are necessary to coordinate with suppliers, carriers, and internal teams to ensure smooth logistics operations. Problem-solving abilities will be utilized to address any discrepancies or issues that arise during the shipping and receiving process. Additionally, organizational skills are important for maintaining a tidy and efficient workspace, which contributes to overall safety and productivity. Preferred skills, such as familiarity with shipping regulations, will enhance the specialist's ability to navigate compliance requirements effectively.
