Position Summary
The Manager of Safety & Compliance serves as an FRA Reporting Officer, responsible for the accurate, timely, and compliant execution of all Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) reporting and regulatory requirements under 49 CFR 225, as well as reporting required by our company policy. This primarily desk-based role focuses on regulatory submissions, data integrity, audit support, and coordination with internal stakeholders to ensure ongoing FRA compliance.
This position functions as an individual contributor, with responsibility for leading compliance-related projects, but does not include direct people management. Occasional travel is required to support FRA audits and company events.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary point of contact for FRA reporting, filings, and regulatory correspondence over your geographical area of responsibility
- Prepare, review, submit, and maintain all required incident reports and documentation with a high degree of accuracy
- Coordinate and support FRA audits, inspections, and information requests
- Support internal reviews and investigations related to incidents and accidents.
- Analyze safety and compliance data to identify trends, discrepancies, or reporting risks
- Maintain internal compliance records, calendars, and documentation systems
- Ensure consistent interpretation and application of FRA requirements
- Participate in company compliance initiatives and projects as assigned
Required Skills and Attributes
- Demonstrated ability to manage high-volume, detail-intensive workloads with consistent accuracy and timeliness
- Working knowledge of FRA regulations, reporting requirements, and 49 CFR Part 225 principles
- Exceptionally high attention to detail and commitment to data integrity across multiple reporting systems
- Highly organized and process-driven; able to build, follow, and continuously improve systems to manage recurring and ad-hoc work
- Proven ability to prioritize competing deadlines and sustain performance in a fast-paced, sometimes high-stress environment
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to identify discrepancies, trends, and potential compliance risks
- Self-motivated and accountable; actively follows up on open items and unresolved data without prompting

- Professional judgment and discretion when handling sensitive regulatory, injury, and legal information
Experience and Qualifications
- 3–5 years of experience in FRA reporting, rail safety compliance, or a related railroad role
- Rail industry experience preferred
- Experience supporting regulatory audits or inspections preferred
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite software
- High school diploma or GED required
