Essential Job Duties And Functions
- Prepares various legal documents necessary to the criminal justice process,
- neglect-abuse process, child support process or civil law process with or without clerical assistance.
- Performs legal research using Westlaw and writing assignments as required.
- Drafting and formatting the table of authorities in the briefs and checking legal citations for proper formatting.
- Assists attorneys in the courtroom, including gathering witnesses, liaising with law enforcement, review of pleadings, correspondence and other information required.
- In civil cases- Conducts personal, detailed interviews with clients and potential clients.
- Compiles and reviews information to draft plea agreements and/or make recommendations for disposition of assigned cases.
- Track cases and performs necessary follow up assignments.
- Ensures the terms of sentence are properly requested, ordered and entered and liaises with Probation Department.
- Ensures that witness list are correct and subpoenas are prepared and that they are properly served in compliance with court rules.
- Coordinates with DHHS relative to referrals to this office and ensures compliance with procedure.
- Liaises with various clerks of court relative to matters to be filed and information to be exchanged.
