What are the responsibilities and job description for the CTO / Lead AI Systems Architect - Energy, Utilities & Building Intelligence position at Genergy?
About Genergy
Genergy is a long-established utility billing, energy consulting, sub-metering, and building infrastructure advisory company serving commercial, multifamily, and institutional real estate customers. Genergy is now building the next-generation AI platform for utility data, building intelligence, and infrastructure optimization.
The existing platform, Utility Manager 2.0, supports utility billing, tenant energy allocation, meter data processing, and operational reporting. The next major initiative, SEA - Supermind Energy Analyst, is intended to evolve this foundation into an AI-powered infrastructure intelligence system capable of analyzing utility telemetry, meter data, occupancy, weather, pricing, equipment behavior, and building system performance.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a young, highly capable, technically ambitious CTO-track leader to own and drive the development of SEA while also managing and modernizing Utility Manager 2.0.
This is not a corporate management-only technology role. We need someone who can think architecturally, write and review code, manage outside developers, understand data pipelines, evaluate ML/AI tools, and translate business problems into scalable technical systems.
The ideal candidate is smart, disciplined, curious, ethical, and hungry to build something meaningful in the energy, utilities, real estate, and AI infrastructure space.
Core Responsibilities
• Lead the architecture and development roadmap for SEA / Supermind Energy Analyst.
• Manage and improve the existing Utility Manager 2.0 billing platform.
• Understand current utility billing workflows, meter data flows, customer reporting, and operational requirements.
• Design scalable data pipelines for meter data, telemetry, weather, occupancy, pricing, building equipment data, and other infrastructure signals.
• Evaluate and implement AI/ML models for anomaly detection, load recognition, forecasting, billing validation, equipment performance analysis, and operational recommendations.
• Manage internal and external developers, contractors, and technical vendors.
• Create technical specifications, system diagrams, development tasks, and QA protocols.
• Help define the company's technical IP, defensibility, and long-term platform architecture.
• Ensure cybersecurity, data integrity, backup discipline, and reliable system operations.
Required Technical Skills
• Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, SQL, APIs, and cloud-based application development.
• Modern web application architecture.
• Database design, especially for high-volume time-series or utility/meter data.
• Data engineering pipelines, ETL/ELT, validation, and data quality controls.
• Cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Docker, GitHub, CI/CD, and modern development workflows.
• ML/AI systems, including model selection, deployment, monitoring, and MLOps.
• Familiarity with LLMs, agentic systems, RAG, or AI workflow orchestration is a plus.
• Experience with billing systems, energy systems, IoT, BAS/BMS, utility data, or real estate technology is a major plus.
Desired Character Traits
• Highly intelligent but humble.
• Technically hands-on.
• Organized and disciplined.
• Able to explain complex ideas clearly to non-technical executives.
• Comfortable working in an entrepreneurial environment.
• Honest about what they know and do not know.
• Capable of managing vendors without being controlled by them.
• Interested in building a long-term technology platform, not just collecting a paycheck.
Why This Role Is Unique
This is an opportunity to become the technical leader of a platform at the intersection of AI, utility data, energy optimization, building automation, sub-metering, real estate operations, predictive infrastructure intelligence, decarbonization, and demand-response strategy.
How to Apply
Please submit:
1. Resume or LinkedIn profile here or to jobs@genergy.com
2. GitHub, portfolio, technical writing, or project examples, if available.
3. A short note explaining why this role interests you.
4. One example of a technical system you built, managed, or significantly improved.
