What are the responsibilities and job description for the Service Writer - Industrial Generators position at Generator Source?
Generator Source is looking for a Service Writer to support our service operations team in Brighton, Colorado. This role is critical to keeping jobs moving—building accurate quotes, ensuring parts are ready, and making sure work is fully documented and billable.
This is not a sales role. You won’t be setting pricing or chasing margin. Your job is to make sure every job is complete, executable, and ready to go without delays or rework.
What You’ll Be Doing
You’ll act as the hub between technicians, parts, and service leadership.
Service Quotes & Job Scopes
- Build accurate, execution-ready quotes from technician input
- Write clear scopes that reflect real field conditions
- Ensure all labor, materials, and steps are captured
Parts & Job Readiness
- Work with Parts Manager to source correct parts
- Focus on availability, lead time, and cost awareness
- Identify alternate sourcing when needed
- Make sure jobs are staged and ready before dispatch
Service Coordination
- Ensure jobs are fully scoped and ready to execute
- Eliminate delays caused by missing info or parts
- Communicate clearly with service team and leadership
Billing & Documentation
- Ensure all work is properly documented
- Capture all labor and parts for billing
- Reduce missed revenue from incomplete jobs

- Quote accuracy (minimal rework)
- Job completeness (first-pass success)
- Parts readiness and fewer delays
- Billing capture (nothing missed)
- Overall job cycle time
Requirements
- 5 years in a service, mechanical, or heavy equipment environment
- Experience as a Service Writer, Coordinator, or similar role preferred
- Strong understanding of service workflow (field → parts → billing)
- Ability to translate technician input into clean documentation
- High attention to detail (mistakes cost real money)
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, hands-on environment
Preferred Background
- Industrial generators, diesel engines, or heavy equipment
- ERP experience (NetSuite preferred)
- Experience with service estimating or job costing
Compensation
- Base Salary: $60,000 – $70,000
- Bonus Target: 6% of base
