Director of Generator Rental Operations
Location: Brighton, Colorado (Corporate Headquarters)
Travel: Regional & National (as needed)
Reports to: CEO & Executive Leadership Team
Generator Source is expanding its presence in the generator rental market, and we’re seeking a proven leader to build and scale a best-in-class rental operation from the ground up. The Director of Generator Rental Operations will own the strategy, execution, and overall performance of the rental division as it launches in Colorado and expands into Texas and Florida.
This role carries full P&L responsibility, with authority to shape the rental fleet, grow revenue, optimize operations, develop personnel, and drive market penetration across multiple regions. The ideal candidate has successfully built or scaled generator rental operations and is ready to take complete ownership of a dynamic, high-growth business line within a national power solutions company.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership
- Build and execute a multi-year generator rental growth strategy to expand operations, enhance fleet capacity, and increase market share across construction, industrial, utility, event, and emergency power sectors.
- Create annual budgets, financial models, and operational KPIs; monitor performance and drive profitability across all rental activities.
- Analyze market trends, emerging demand patterns, customer feedback, and competitive positioning to identify service opportunities and long-term strategic advantages.
Operational Excellence
- Oversee all day-to-day rental operations, ensuring consistency in service quality, fleet readiness, and customer experience across branches.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for dispatch, delivery, maintenance, logistics, safety, and asset lifecycle management.
- Drive fleet utilization and ROI through proactive forecasting, asset optimization, and inventory planning.
- Ensure seamless collaboration with internal shop, service, sales, and logistics teams.
Sales & Market Development
- Partner closely with internal sales teams to develop targeted market expansion plans for each region.
- Build and maintain relationships with national and regional accounts; support bids, RFPs, pricing strategies, and contract negotiations.
- Work with marketing to strengthen Generator Source’s brand presence and promote rental capabilities across all channels.
Team Leadership & Development
- Recruit, train, and mentor a high-performing rental operations team—including dispatch, rental coordinators, drivers, and field/technical support.
- Build leadership bench strength and scalable organizational structure as the division grows.
- Foster a culture centered on accountability, service excellence, urgency, and safety.
- Implement technical and customer-service training programs for field staff, mechanics, and rental support personnel.
Compliance & Safety
- Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT, EPA, and federal/state/local safety and environmental regulations.
- Champion a zero-incident environment through regular safety audits, corrective actions, and training reinforcement.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
Experience
- 10 years in equipment rental, power generation, or industrial operations, with demonstrated success leading rental businesses.
- Proven P&L leadership, ideally across multiple states or multi-location operations.
- Experience leading and developing teams of 25 employees while managing complex logistics, dispatch, and fleet operations.
- Background in generator rentals strongly preferred.
Skills & Competencies
- Strategic planning, market expansion, and operational scaling expertise.
- Strong financial acumen with the ability to analyze operational data and act decisively.
- Advanced leadership, negotiation, and customer relationship management skills.
- Technical understanding of diesel/gas generators, power distribution, and load requirements.
- Ability to build systems, processes, and structure in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
