Job Summary
Demonstrates a passion for advancing nursing practice and improving patient outcomes. Plays a critical role in overall success of facility. Possesses a combination of strong leadership skills, technical expertise and a deep understanding of healthcare regulations and standards. Responsible for the overall management and direction of nursing services, including but not limited to: assessment, implementation of treatment, and evaluation of quality clinical services for patients. This position has oversight of all clinical staff, a multi-disciplinary professional team. Develops hospital-wide systems, policies and procedures designed to meet the patient care need. Has overall responsibility and accountability for the development of staffing plans and development and implementation of departmental budgets. Responsible for planning for the appropriate utilization of resources, maintaining or improving the work environment, and monitoring and improving the quality and appropriateness of care. Works closely with Physicians to address patient care needs and enhance patient care systems. Promotes the facility through active involvement and participation in external and internal activities concerning health care services.
Supervisory Responsibility
Supervises the following positions: Manages and directs clinical departments, which may include nursing and Staff Education/Development.
Position Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN)
- Four (4) years of proven psychiatric nursing
- Strong knowledge and understanding of nursing practices, healthcare regulations and regulatory compliance requirements
- Previous experience with regulatory body surveys/inspections
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to lead and motivate a multi-disciplinary team
- Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous quality improvement
- Current BLS certification
- Master of Science in Nursing
- Two (2) years in a leadership role or DON position, healthcare leader
- Experience with budget management and financial planning
Responsibilities
- Provide strategic and operational leadership for nursing services across the facility
- Partner with other healthcare leaders to develop, monitor, implement policies and procedures, etc. that improve patient outcomes.
- Ensure that nursing practices are evidence-based and in compliance with all regulatory requirements. Stay current on Medicare and Medicaid regulations.
- Responsible for development and implementation of nursing policies, procedures and standards of care, as well the management of nursing staff
- Facilitate the professional development of nursing staff, including training and mentorship opportunities.
- Evaluate, observe and assess the emotional and physical need for mental health services among patients
- Analyze a situation and adopt a course of action. Being resourceful and persistent – demonstrate the ability to dig in and troubleshoot problems, following through to resolution.
- Demonstrates good knowledge of regulatory standards, Medicare, Medicaid, Joint Commission, State and Local agencies.
Working Conditions
Work occurs in a fast-paced psychiatric inpatient setting with patients who may display unpredictable or aggressive behaviors and must use de-escalation skills and follow safety protocols. The role requires frequent standing, walking, sitting, occasional lifting or assisting patients and the ability to respond quickly to emergencies while performing clinical tasks.
