What are the responsibilities and job description for the Fork Lift Operator 1st and 2nd shift position at General Sheet Metal Works Inc?
The Fork Lift Operator is charged with the responsibility to ensure product is in the right place at the right time in the right quantity for internal and external customers.
Organizational Relationships and Authority
The Fork Lift Operator reports directly to the supervisor and is a part of the Logistics Team. There are no direct reports to this position.
Key Responsibilities
The Fork Lift Operator will expertly operate material handling equipment.
Other responsibilities specific to this position include:
- Operating sit down and stand up forklifts and pickers
- Operating overhead cranes, jib and walk behind lifting devices
- Moving yard trailers with a yard truck
- Delivering to inventory locations in the warehouse.
- Receiving outside process items, MRO, miscellaneous goods and products
- Delivering MRO (maintenance, repair and operations), packaging and supplies to designated areas and/or departments
- Specialty packaging of products after production when necessary
- Operate scanning devices
- Picking, moving and labeling product for shipment
- Inspect equipment as required
- Housekeeping and organizing of indoor and outdoor dock areas, shipping yard and storage areas
Job Demands and Expectations
All GSM personnel are expected to work overtime on occasion, including weekends as needed. The work environment is fast-paced, dynamic and team-oriented. Each employee contributes to the overall success of the organization and is expected to grow with the company.
Qualifications and Competencies
- Attain and keep a forklift operator license
- Maintain an optimistic and supportive attitude
- Demonstrate accuracy and 10-Key speed
- Valid state driver’s license is preferred with “For Hire” license, Class A or B or CDL
The individual will also maintain competency with the following programs and equipment:
- Laptop or desktop computer
- Microsoft Office Suite
- Communication devices
- Navigate corporate inventory system
- Navigate third party shipping software
- Scanning devices
- High school diploma or GED (Preferred) or required experience.
