The Role:
The primary purpose of this position is to respond to high-threat situations such as an active shooter or terrorist attack by employing tactical teamwork and the use of force necessary to protect the public and contain or resolve the incident. The position reports to the Tactical Response Team Lead and operations are based out of the GM Headquarters (Renaissance Center) located in Detroit, MI.
Responsibilities:
- Respond to incidents involving an active shooter, violent or mentally ill subjects, medical situations, bomb threats and/or any other event in accordance with General Motors Global Security standards
- Preserve order and enforce regulations and directives pertaining to the site, personnel and visitors
- Assure compliance with applicable sections of the General Motors Global Security Manual and Standard Operating Procedures
- Conduct foot or vehicle patrols to ensure a safe and secure work environment
- Observe, report and manage activities and incidents at assigned General Motors sites
- Protect property owned by General Motors, occupying tenants and site visitors
- Control access to General Motors facilities through the admittance process
- Monitor site entrances and exits; act to prevent unauthorized entry; control the movement of people and vehicles
- Protect evidence and/or the scene of a crime, incident or accident
- Prepare incident reports, daily logs, etc., as required by General Motors Global Security standards
- Conduct physical/personal security operations at off-site locations
- Monitor remote areas using closed circuit television and operates remote devices
- Project a courteous and professional demeanor when interacting with General Motors personnel, visitors and the public
Additional Job Description
Knowledge:
- Working knowledge of processes related to security such as:
- emergency response and crisis management
- security technology
- Working knowledge of law enforcement specifically relating to arrest powers (PA330)
- Working knowledge of the Use-of-Force Continuum
- Firearms training
Skills:
- Ability to maintain a high degree of professionalism and a constant state of vigilance

Experience/Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent experience
- Preferred - Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, college or equivalent formal education
- Must be a current or former U.S. law enforcement officer (sworn or PA330) with a minimum of five years of experience
- Served on a tactical team. (preferred)
- Must pass a criminal history check, background investigation, psychological testing, medical screening, and drug testing
- Must be physically able to pass an annual fitness test
- Must qualify with a handgun, shotgun and tactical carbine regularly
- Maintains a Concealed Pistol License (CPL)
- Maintains any applicable licensing requirements for security officers
- Maintains basic first aid and CPR certifications
- PA330 Certified (preferred)
- Emergency Medical Technician (preferred)
