Job Description
THE ROLE:
The EV Charging Communication Specialist is responsible for having in depth understanding of all EV charging communication interfaces and standards (DIN, ISO 15118, CHAdeMO, GBT and Chaoji) to create physical/data link requirements, communication stack layers requirements and interfaces, and communication strategy/diagnostics requirements to be used by in-vehicle ECUs for robust/reliable communication of vehicles with any of the EV Charging Stations in the market, and in guiding hardware and software teams in the correct implementation of these requirements.

Job Description
THE ROLE:
The EV Charging Communication Specialist is responsible for having in depth understanding of all EV charging communication interfaces and standards (DIN, ISO 15118, CHAdeMO, GBT and Chaoji) to create physical/data link requirements, communication stack layers requirements and interfaces, and communication strategy/diagnostics requirements to be used by in-vehicle ECUs for robust/reliable communication of vehicles with any of the EV Charging Stations in the market, and in guiding hardware and software teams in the correct implementation of these requirements.
TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Create and maintain requirements for EV Charging Communication Layers (from Physical/Data Link up to Application Interfaces) for current and future EV Communication Standards (DIN, ISO 15118, CHAdeMO, GBT and Chaoji).

Create and maintain requirements concerning EV Charging Communication strategy and related diagnostics to enable reliable communication between Vehicle and EV Charging Station (e.g. startup, communication faults and recovery, requests/responses communication patterns/sequencing, timeouts, shutdown, communication stack layers partitioning and interactions, gating of EV PLC/CAN/WiFi to In-Vehicle Ethernet Communication, etc).

Guide the hardware and software teams in the correct implementation of EV Charging Communication Interfaces and Requirements

Guide the electrical architecture team in the implementation of communication interfaces, documenting interface requirements in DOORS and providing guidance for modeling and implementation by the System Design team and the Network Design team.

Work with the validation team to create validation tests to confirm adherence to requirements/standards and to confirm/ensure interoperability to EV Charging Infrastructure.

Participate in the EV Charging Standards Consortiums for collaborating and influencing in the definition of standards that can benefit GM Strategies for EV Charging.

Stay abreast of new technology, new standards, tools and competitive products concerning EV Charging.

Support vehicle launches and debug issues concerning EV Charging interfaces and communication.

Additional Job Description
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering
-
2 years relevant experience
-
Expertise in EV Charging regulatory requirements SAE, ISO, IEC and industry standards applicable to electric vehicle battery charging products.
-
Deep understanding of the ISO 15118-2 (and related ISO15118 standards) vehicle charging protocol.
-
Implementation Experience with development/integration of ISO15118 standard software into In vehicle systems and in depth knowledge into configuration/optimization of standard for a production environment.

Experience developing requirements for Charging Controls / Off board Charging Station Communication.
-
Experience and understanding of hardware and software validation testing at various levels for EV Charging (SIL, HIL, Charger and Vehicle Charging System).
-
Vehicle integration development of charging controls, J1772, DIN70121, ISO 15118, interoperability, bench integration, conformance testing.

Ability to coordinate and complete tasks per a release schedule
-
Ability to identify non-compliance to standards and resolve the issue
- High level of analytical ability where problems are unique and complex
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Master Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Software Engineering

5 years and all Required Qualifications listed above.

Deep understanding of the ISO 15118-20 vehicle charging protocol and participation in the Consortium/standards body.
