Position Summary:
We are seeking a talented and hands-on
Electrical/Optical Engineer
to join our Research & Development team. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys bringing ideas to life, designing, testing, and refining innovative electronic and optical systems that power advanced industrial inspection equipment.
The ideal candidate has a strong foundation in PCB design, embedded systems, and circuit analysis, and takes pride in creating reliable, production-ready designs that perform in demanding industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and test printed circuit boards (PCBs) for high-performance inspection systems.
- Build and evaluate prototype boards using designed PCBs and breadboards.
- Apply sound engineering principles to ensure robust, reliable performance in industrial environments.
- Debug and analyze circuit behavior using tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, and logic analyzers.
- Program and integrate microcontrollers and/or FPGA systems using C, Verilog, or VHDL.
- Collaborate with PCB manufacturers by providing BOMs, Gerber files, and build documentation for production.
- Work closely with software, mechanical, and optical engineers to ensure seamless system integration.
- Support R&D initiatives focused on continuous product improvement and new technology development.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Although preferred, Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related field -
is not required. - U.S. citizenship is required for this position due to obligations under government contracts.
We value hands-on experience, practical problem-solving, and a strong technical foundation.
- PCB design experience using tools such as KiCad, PCBExpress, or similar.
- Proficiency in C, Verilog, or VHDL programming.
- Skilled in SMD, microcontroller, and FPGA soldering.
- Strong understanding of electrical design fundamentals, including signal integrity, grounding, and noise reduction.
- Ability to utilize diagnostic tools, including a multimeter, oscilloscope, and logic analyzer
- Personal projects or experience with Arduino, STM32, Raspberry Pi, or Alterra platforms is a plus.
- Background in robotics, automation, servo/stepper motor control, LED lighting, or machine vision preferred.
- Exposure to optical or imaging hardware design is a plus.
