To define the role and responsibilities of the laboratory technologist/technician to satisfy the requirements of the accrediting agencies. The laboratory technologist/technician performs various chemical and microscopic and bacteriological tests to obtain data for use in diagnosis and treatment of diseases; receives or obtains specimens for laboratory analysis; applies techniques used in fields of bacteriology, parasitology, hematology, serology, and chemical examinations; records laboratory test results, orders supplies in the absence of Laboratory Manager when necessary; performs quality control and proficiency testing in various sections of the laboratory; and performs phlebotomy.

Duties /Responsibilities:
- Performs accurate laboratory tests and analyses to assist in patient diagnosis and care.
- Collects and handles specimens safely following infection control procedures.
- Provides patient care using lab processes as a framework, prioritizing identified needs.
- Participates in the orientation, training, and education of new staff, students, and consumers.
- Assists in developing and revising lab policies, data collection, and special projects.
- Projects a positive, professional image supporting the organization's goals and values.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Key Responsibilities
- Sample Preparation: Collect and prepare biological samples (blood, urine, feces) for testing.
- Conduct Test: Perform laboratory procedures and tests, including serological, bacteriological, biochemical, hematological, and microbiological.
- Analyze Results: Analyze test results and report findings to medical professionals, ensuring compliance with safety and quality standards.
- Equipment Maintenance: Maintain, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment and perform quality control procedures to ensure accuracy.
- Documentation: Verify, record, and report lab results, maintaining proper records for quality control and compliance with regulations.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Provide primary, episodic patient care to individuals of all ages.
- Utilizes lab processes as framework for patient care.
- Provide care based upon identified needs in a prioritized manner.

Qualifications/Education and Experience:
- Education: Associate or bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science or a related field.
- Certification: National certification (e.g., ASCP, AMT, NAACLS) or eligibility, with completion expected within six (6) months of hire.
- Experience: One (1) year of experience as a Medical Laboratory Technologist or Technician in the United States preferred; new graduates will be considered but must pass a certifying exam within six (6) months of employment.
- Skills: Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities; high attention to detail; ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Additional requirements: Current BLS certification.

- Inside: Spends approximately 100% of time inside. Inside work has good ventilation and comfortable temperature.
