Position Summary
General Formulations is seeking a Payroll Specialist to join our Human Resources team. This position serves as the primary owner of payroll processing and payroll administration, ensuring employees are paid accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with all applicable payroll laws and regulations. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, organized, customer-focused, and comfortable handling confidential information. This role works closely with HR, employees, supervisors, and leadership to support an exceptional employee experience.
Key Responsibilities
- Process accurate and timely payroll for hourly and salaried employees across multiple shifts
- Maintain employee payroll records, including earnings, deductions, taxes, garnishments, direct deposits, and paid time off balances
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations
- Review and audit payroll data for accuracy prior to processing
- Coordinate payroll changes related to new hires, terminations, promotions, transfers, and compensation adjustments
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employee payroll questions and concerns
- Administer payroll-related reporting and maintain payroll documentation
- Support benefit deduction administration and payroll-related reconciliations
- Prepare payroll reports for leadership and internal stakeholders
- Coordinate year-end payroll activities, including W-2 processing and related reporting
- Partner with Human Resources to ensure employee data accuracy within payroll and HR systems
- Identify opportunities to improve payroll processes, efficiency, and employee service
- Set up unemployment accounts in new states and manage the rates in the system
- Quarterly and annual tax reporting through the UKG system
- Multiple states - in addition to creating unemployment accounts, may also need to register for withholding accounts
- Multiple companies with centralized department
Qualifications
- 3 years of payroll experience required
- Experience processing payroll in a manufacturing or multi-shift environment preferred
- Strong knowledge of payroll laws, tax regulations, and compliance requirements
- Experience with payroll systems, HRIS platforms, and Microsoft Excel
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Strong organizational, communication, and customer service skills
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information professionally
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in human resources, Business, Accounting, or a related field preferred
- FPC or CPP certification is a plus but not required
- Experienced with W/C audit
- Experience with 401K audit
- Experience in UKG a plus, but not required
