Journeyworker Electrician

OVERVIEW:

The Journeyman Electrician will conduct, maintain, test and repair electrical/electronic, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems and components in an industrial setting primarily on Aggregate Equipment Power Systems. Apply knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical principles in determining equipment malfunctions and apply skills in restoring equipment to operation. Provide skilled mechanical and electrical/electronic support to all areas of manufacturing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Troubleshoot and repair Electrical systems/components controlling mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and power generation equipment in an Industrial setting including but not limited to Programmable/Numeral Controls, PLC’s, Drives, VFD’s, Switch Gear Panels and Power Supplies, Sensors, Gauges and Test Equipment
• Plans and perform work requiring a thorough knowledge of electrical/electronic and mechanical theories and principles, writing specifications, local and national electrical codes, properties of various materials, and principles of operation and application of electronic equipment
• Installs, starts up and shuts down equipment in accordance with company safety procedures for machine activation and shutdown and in line with OSHA requirements
• Advises operators and line mechanics of operation procedures and requirements for working safely with electrical/electronic and mechanical equipment and components
• Informs appropriate management and line mechanics of potential electrical/mechanical problems and inherent dangers involved
• Maintains company-required performance and maintenance records for identified equipment.
• Performs preventive maintenance functions as directed
• Assists maintenance personnel with technical troubleshooting
• Assists and trains other maintenance and/or other technical level employees
• Performs other duties as required

NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB:

• Occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 100 pounds and/or frequently lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 50 pounds and/or continuous lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling 20 pounds.
• Occasional to frequent walking or standing.
• Frequent and continual movement as follows, often several of movements simultaneously (i.e., handle while crouching, carry while kneeling):
  • Kneel (bend legs at knee, come to rest on knees)
  • Crouch/Squat (bend body down and forward, bending legs and spine)
  • Crawl (move on hands, knees, and feet)
  • Climb (ascend/descend ladders, stairs, ramp, or step up on or down from equipment/trailer)
  • Stoop (Bend downward and forward at waist)
  • Lift (raise or lower object > 25 pounds from one level to another)
  • Carry (transport an object)
  • Push (press with steady force, thrust objects forward, downward, outward)
  • Pull (drag or tug objects)
  • Turn/twist (move a body part in circular motion)
  • Bend (bend downward and forward by bending the spine at waist)
  • Reach (extend hands and arms in any direction)
  • Handle (seize, hold turn with hands)
• Repetitive motion of wrists, hands, and fingers.
• Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
• Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment.
• Consistently exposed to weather conditions, fumes, and loud noise.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Educational background must include a high school diploma and two years of formal technical training
• Must have proven knowledge of the principles of electricity and electrical design.
• Valid MN Electrician License
• Must be a licensed journeyman electrician or an experienced apprentice electrician willing/able obtain their journeyman license
• Two years of Journeyman’s experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems, equipment and fixtures from blueprints, schematics and sketches or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience
• 1-2 years of proven experience in the electrical/electronics, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic fields are required and the ability to demonstrate high proficiency in these areas
• Experience and ability to work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment
• A thorough knowledge of electrical/ electronic components and equipment including the use of special instruments for diagnostic purposes
• High degree of precision working with minimum tolerances required
• Exposed to high voltage electricity
• Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain an insurable driving record
• Ability to climb in overhead structures, to work beneath machines and in close quarters performing analysis and repair work
• Must be highly safety conscious
• Must be able to work well with all levels of personnel whether individually or in a team environment, and especially must be able to interface and communicate with line operators in order to assist with repairs and troubleshooting
• Willing to work any shift and overtime as required
• Must be willing to travel as there may be some overnight field service work involved from time to time, this may also include traveling with very short notice at times
