Control Systems Engineer designs, models, simulates, and optimizes automated systems to ensure safe, efficient performance. A Control Systems Engineer on our team typically performs the following types of work:
- Execute work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team to make design decisions.
- Creating dynamic mathematical plant models of ocean environment, vehicle motion, and ship systems, to analyze system behavior using tools like MATLAB/Simulink, C , and Python.
- Creating various control algorithms and filter designs.
- Creating and verifying outer loop and inner loop requirements using simulations.
- Document models, algorithms, and performance predictions in engineering calculations to inform other teams and departments on design decisions and implementation
- Performing Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) simulation to test systems before deployment.
- Integrating hardware (sensors, actuators) with software to meet functional requirements.
- Analyzing existing systems for improvements and troubleshooting production failures
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace engineering
- 0-5 years of post-graduate engineering experience
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance through the DoD
Preferred:
- Relevant Master's degree with a concentration, thesis, and/or capstone project in control systems, dynamic system modeling, and control algorithm development.
- Strong understanding of mathematics and physics that underpin the concepts of control systems, such as modeling, dynamics, and signal processing.
- Knowledge of control theory, programming languages (Python, C/C )
- Experience working with inner loop/outer loop algorithm development and optimization
- Analytical and problem-solving skills, which are critical to constantly analyze data, identify problems, and design solutions to optimize system performance.
