Construction of VIRGINIA Class submarines has ramped up at Electric Boat Quonset Point (EB QP) and so has the demand for deck plate construction engineering support. Reporting to the Supervisor of Structural Engineering, this position provides structural technical support for submarine construction activities at the EB QP facility in North Kingstown, RI.
In this role, the candidate will proactively assist trade personnel to overcome construction problems and facilitate resolution of design issues for all structural work performed at EB QP.
Responsibilities:
- Proactively assist trade personnel to overcome construction problems and facilitate implementation of design changes and process improvements
- Evaluate shipyard issues that arise during construction and efficiently develop technically acceptable resolutions via disposition of Engineering Reports and TIR Unsats.
- Interpret design, drawing, and specification requirements
- Coordinate engagement of design and engineering subject matter experts (SMEs) to adjudicate construction problems
- Occasionally perform engineering calculations for “as-built” configurations as required
- Perform surveillances of manufacturing, inspection and testing of trade work in the Quonset Point shipyard.
- Regularly interface with trade personnel, management and on-site Customer (Navy) representatives
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil (Structural), Mechanical, Naval Architecture, Marine/Ocean or Aeronautical engineering
- 1-5 years of post-graduate engineering experience
- Candidates must possess a working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, especially Excel, PowerPoint and Word
Preferred:
- Prior deck plate construction engineering experience is highly desirable
- Familiarity with Electronic Desktop (7G, Work Orders, ELCADD, ERS, etc.)
- Familiarity with Team Center and JCALS/ERWF

- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to work independently are required
- This position requires physical interfacing in manufacturing shops and on submarine modules, including climbing and accessing confined spaces
