Overall Responsibilities Of a D248 Pipe Welding Manager
Reporting to the Director of Operations for Early Nuclear Builds and Steel, this Operations Manager will be responsible to manage all aspects of Pipe Welding, Hanger Welding and Pipe Grinding trade operations across the shipyard. The candidate must manage the performance of department training, manning and equipment needed to execute functional tasks. Candidates must also possess a proven track record in these areas. Must have effective problem solving skills. Candidate must be able to promote a positive team environment and be highly motivated with strong interpersonal skills. Must be fully cognizant of OSHA requirements relating to specific trades and will be held accountable for enforcement of standards and shipyard safety practices. Must be able to interpret and implement all job requirements utilizing EB systems and procedures.

Key Responsibilities Of a D248 Pipe Welding Manager
Product/Services
- Coordinate with Training, Facilities and Inspection organizations to drive Weld School performance to meet production demand
- Track welding performance across all shifts and projects to drive first time quality and production efficiency.
- Support as Co-Lead for Groton Pipe DST and Groton Health of Welding (HoW)
- Provide input and guidance to Groton VISION team to manage visual inspection program for pipe welding
- Manage critical skills program and continuous training and proficiency
- Provide input to availability of production and non-production material; consult with material planners and facilities
- Achieve quality objectives; apply corrective actions as needed to address deficiencies including utilizing MDD-00664 process
- Identify production facilities and equipment needs to drive pipe welding production including increasing the use of mechanization to reduce span and improve first time quality
- Enforce/comply with safety and environmental programs; monitor trends and ensure compliance; consult with responsible departments
- Plan for risk identification and responsive mitigation strategies
- Perform formal surveillances to support Operations surveillance program and HoW surveillances
- Perform formal surveillances of Weld School performance
- Participate in safe-site audits, hazard hunts, and safety tours
- Plan for Human Resource needs through succession planning and talent management; input to the recruiting, interviewing and selection of new employees; consult with manpower planning and trade resource managers
- Improve workforce performance and productivity; establish and communicate expectations; positively motivate the workforce
- Monitor and improve workplace climate; reinforce desired workforce values behaviors; maintain morale
- Manage individual performance of General Foremen and Operations Supervisors; develop their technical and professional leadership skills

Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED
- 8 years of trades or shipbuilding experience
- 4 years of Trades Supervisory/Management experience
- Ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance through the Department of Defense
- Must be able to work on any shift as business needs dictate
- Bachelor of Science degree is preferred
- Experience with pipe fitting, pipe welding and purging or structural welding
- Proficiency with blueprints, MRP, EWP, SPARS, ATIS, Artemis, and EVM is desired
- Computer skills including MS Office and Project
- Experience working with the Electric Boat MDD-00664 process
- Electric Boat developmental program(s) (PDG/FLG/BLG) graduate
- Relevant military leadership experience desired
- Strong written/verbal communication and interpersonal skills is required
- High attention to detail and ability to demonstrate previous experience in performing at a high quality level
- Applicant must be a self-motivator with a strong awareness of procedural compliance
- Ability to motivate peers and subordinates to achieve daily goals
