Fiber-Optics Engineer - Systems

General Dynamics Electric Boat
New London, CT Full Time
POSTED ON 10/8/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 11/6/2026
The Electric Boat fiber-optic engineering team is responsible for the design, qualification, integration and testing of the fiber-optic cable system (FOCS) on US Navy submarines. The FOCS spans multiple submarine platforms and interconnects over twenty (20) different subsystems on each. To coordinate many unique interfaces on this scale, exceptional communication and organizational skills are a must-have. The candidate for this position will be required to interface with NAVSEA, government vendors and various other Electric Boat departments on a daily basis.

This position will require the engineer to perform technology investigations, write white papers, review/approve drawings, resolve construction issues, identify/manage risks, recognize opportunities for cost reduction, track/evaluate requirements and manage various projects.
