What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director, Government Affairs position at General Aviation Manufacturers Association?
The General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA) is seeking a Director of Government Affairs (mid-level position) to support the association’s advocacy efforts on Capitol Hill.
GAMA is an international trade association headquartered in Washington, DC, representing over 130 of the world's leading manufacturers of general aviation aircraft, rotorcraft, powered-lift aircraft, engines, avionics, components, and related services and technologies. GAMA works to foster and advance the general welfare, safety, interests, and activities of general aviation.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of and reporting to the Vice President of Government Affairs, the Director of Government Affairs, is a liaison to all branches of government. Specific responsibilities include:
- Developing policy initiatives and building support for these within the GAMA membership.
- Devising public policy strategies to support the direction of the Board of Directors and implement these strategies within the legislative and executive branch of government.
- Communicating public policy positions directly with Members of Congress, federal agency representatives, relevant trade associations, and regulators and other officials.
- Monitoring and reporting legislative activities for impact on GAMA and the aviation industry.
- Maintaining relationships and organizing direct communications, outreach, and advocacy initiatives with U.S. House and U.S. Senate offices and relevant committees.
The position is based in Washington, D.C., with occasional travel required for events and meetings when appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree, or higher, in political science, public policy, business, communication or related field.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a congressional office.
- Experience with legislative and regulatory processes and advocacy programs.
- Excellent research, analytical and data management skills, with attention to detail.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the capability to convey complex information clearly.
- Capability to work collaboratively in a team-oriented environment and manage multiple tasks effectively.
