We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Technical Department Specialist in our Energy division to perform a variety of activities, with a focus in inventory and component inspection, in support of the Target Fabrication Group at LLNL in Livermore, Ca.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Operates Optical Coordinate Measuring Machines and manually operated stations to assemble and provide dimensional inspection data on completed target assemblies, sub-assemblies and components.
- Requires regular use of OCMMs, multi-axis assembly stations, microscopes, metrology equipment and hand tools.
- Performs incoming inspection and assembly tasks in a class 100 cleanroom including:
- Electro-mechanical component incoming inspection.
- Target base assembly, subassembly, and final dimensional metrology.
- Thin film processing, testing and attachment.
- Hohlraum and LEH insertion, inner shield and HDC window installation.
- Target assembly and metrology.
- Bonding tasks on partially complete target assemblies.
- Constructs and installs multiple diagnostic backlighters for different target types.
- Assembles diagnostic band subassemblies for various experiments.
- Interacts with production staff, engineering, and technical personnel from a variety of laboratory organizations.
- May be required to perform electrical diagnostics and repairs on components and assembled targets.
- May be required to perform high vacuum leak testing of components at room and cryogenic temperatures.
- Handles, inspects and assembles “high value” and extremely fragile targets and components.
- Assembles prototype targets and subassemblies from engineering drawings, assembly procedures and build guides.
- Provides accurate and organized documentation.
- Works in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
- Monitors all operations for regulatory and safety compliance.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Job Qualifications
- Typically requires associate's degree or equivalent with two or more years of experience. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
- Must be able to work with common hand tools and operate laboratory equipment.
- Must have the capability to perform complex assignments with minimal supervision.
- Ability and willingness to work on systems which have unusual conditions such as high pressure, high voltage, high energy, cryogens, or radioactive materials.
- Must be customer focused and possess strong organizational skills to maintain flow of work within the unit.
- General knowledge of computer operations, applications, word processing, and spreadsheets.
- Must have analytical ability to read and understand detailed instructions, drawings, and specifications.
- Must have excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written skills to interface with all levels of internal employees and be able to accurately document and record precise information.
- Communication skills are necessary to explain technical information and respond to routine issues or situations and maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
- The ability to work both independently and in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours as required.
- Perform tasks in a class 100 cleanroom requiring long periods of standing, walking, bending, and lifting to 25 lbs.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DOE Q Security Clearance is required.
- US Citizenship required.
