Job Summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS’ expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We have an exciting opportunity in our Systems Engineering Department for a Performance Modeling Engineer in GA-EMS, located in Rancho Bernardo, CA.

DUTIES & RESPONISBILITIES:

  • Provide technical analyses and judgement, using a systems engineering approach from requirements development to requirements verification, for the development, fabrication, testing, and integration of new or existing systems within GA-EMS.
  • Ability to understand modeling point designs to design envelopes, including steady-state and transient simulations with deterministic event fault scenarios.
  • Ability to model using one of the following: commercially available analytical simulation tools such as MATLAB/Simulink; or company-developed models using Python; or manage engineering information database using Access.
  • Coordinate and/or interface with customers, contractors, and engineering groups assigned to projects.
  • Follow program plans, estimates, and schedules.
  • Reference system designs to generate system and sub-system level requirements.
  • Support the development of test plans and the integration, verification and validation of systems through qualification testing.
  • Additional duties include the development and presentation of technical material for design reviews.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Must have an understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level, to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
  • Must have excellent communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform tasks in one engineering area. .
  • Able to work extended hours as required on an occasional basis. .
  • Desirable qualifications include ability to generate and run Python scripts and execute Python commands using Windows PowerShell.
  • Desirable qualifications include experience with either DOORS requirements management tools or Cameo SysML MBSE tools.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.

Salary range: 98,100 - 171,398
