Job Summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS’ expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We currently have an exciting opportunity at General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) for a Senior Director of Strategic Development - Space located in Centennial, Colorado. This position reports to VP Strategic Development and is responsible for directing business development activities for products and services.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for all strategic development for domestic and international government programs, overseeing all phases of business development activities to ensure business and financial objectives are attained for domestic/foreign government development opportunities.
  • Manage business pursuit team involved in the capture of current and emerging space opportunities, identifying new marketing trends, managing marketing budget and establishing and maintaining relationships with government customer and industry personnel.
  • Direct the development of new strategic business opportunities and expansion of existing business opportunities.
  • Consult with GA EMS Strategic Development VP and Senior Management in pursuing business partnerships and alliances that enhance the capabilities of the organization.
  • Direct the assessment of potential business opportunities through activities such as market and economic analysis, monitoring competitive activity and identifying customer needs.
  • Provide guidance in the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements and specifications, operating budgets and financial terms/conditions of contract(s).
  • Consult with GA EMS VP Strategic Development to develop and implement current, annual and long-term schedule, quality, business, and financial objectives for the unit(s) and participate in the development of Group/Company objectives.
  • As necessary, coordinate with Senior Manager, Strategic Communications on branding, messaging and future tradeshow events that involve government sales.
  • Act as the primary contact for high-level business development activities. Lead progress review sessions to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance and to disseminate information on a continuous basis to all pertinent parties concerning the fulfillment of project goals and objectives.
  • Identify strategic development issues and assist leadership in developing solutions such as re-allocation of resources or modifying contract specifications.
  • Ensure business leadership and excellence is maintained by managing and participating in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of the required management, professional, and technical talent.
  • Act as the primary contact for high level business development space activities. May lead progress review sessions to discuss cost, schedule, and technical performance and to disseminate information on a continuous basis to all pertinent parties concerning the fulfillment of project goals and objectives.
  • Responsible for ensuring all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations are observed wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company.
  • Responsible for ensuring work is accomplished in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices. Maintain the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ensure business leadership and excellence is maintained by overseeing the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of the required professional talent.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required.
  • This position will have a primary office in the GA EMS Centennial, Colorado office.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a Bachelors or Masters in business administration or a related field and fifteen or more years of progressively complex experience in business development with at least eleven years managing business development activities. May substitute equivalent experience in lieu of education.
  • DoD Secret Security clearance is required with the ability to upgrade to Top Secret clearance.
  • Significant domestic and international travel will be required.
  • Must have experience successfully leading and managing a team of direct reports.
  • Must demonstrate a detailed and extensive expertise and application of business development principles and concepts, and practice as well as comprehensive project management and leadership skills including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones.
  • Must possess the ability to resolve unusually complex management problems; serve as spokesperson on projects; and be an expert in one or more areas of business development.
  • Strong communication, leadership, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required to enable an effective interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.
