Job Summary

Under general supervision, this position is responsible for providing safety engineering in a complex manufacturing environment. Participates in the development of safe work and environmental procedures training. Ensures workplace conditions comply with applicable federal and state Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standard provisions, ensuring that all required records are prepared and maintained; coordinates and participates in OSHA or other outside agency inspection(s) and in any procedures that may follow a citation. May act as a liaison to remote facilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Proactively identify, analyze, and document accidental loss and high‑hazard conditions in manufacturing, test, and lab environments, with particular attention to:
    • Chemical handling, storage, and processing (e.g., solvents, oils, energetic materials).
    • Electrical systems and equipment (e.g., high‑voltage test setups)
    • Chemical process operations, including detailed review of reaction chemistry, handling and transfer of hazardous chemicals, process upsets and deviations, storage and segregation of incompatible materials, and safety controls for mixing, heating, and pressurized systems.
  • Independently conduct safety investigations of incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions; perform root‑cause analysis and drive practical corrective and preventive actions to closure.
  • Develop and deliver targeted safety training tailored to specific departments and work areas, including:
    • Ergonomics for production and lab environments
    • Hazardous materials and hazard communication (right‑to‑know)
    • Material handling and lifting
    • CPR/First Aid and AED
    • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) selection and use
    • Emergency procedures, including chemical spills, fire, and weather-related events
  • Support the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of corporate Employee Health and Safety programs; draft, update, and maintain site safety manuals, procedures, and work instructions.
  • Participates in any regulatory inspections; investigates, prepares and forwards reports on injuries and fatalities; completes required federal and state reports relating to safety.
  • Ensures compliance with government and state health and safety regulations that meets both budgetary and compliance requirements.
  • Serve as a safety liaison to remote facilities as needed; ensure consistent application of safety policies and procedures across sites and coordinate safety, health, and environmental programs with local safety representatives.
  • Actively engage with supervisors, engineers, technicians, and operators to reinforce safe work practices and promote a strong safety culture based on personal accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to maintain a productive and safe working environment in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
  • Additional Functions: Other duties as assigned or required.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a Bachelors or Masters degree in industrial hygiene, occupational safety or a related technical field and two or more years progressively complex experience with a Bachelors, in safety engineering. Additional professional experience may be substituted in lieu of education.
  • Must demonstrate a general understanding of industrial hygiene and/or occupational safety principles, concepts, theories, regulations and practices; and analytical skills to evaluate and interpret regulatory requirements.
  • Must possess:
    • the ability to resolve non-routine technical problems;
    • strong verbal and written communication skills to accurately document, report and present findings;
    • strong presentation skills in order to conduct training for all levels of employees;
    • strong interpersonal skills to effectively interface with all levels of employees, senior management and outside representatives;
    • the ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information; and,
    • strong computer skills. Ability to work independently and in a team environment is essential as is the ability to work extended hours and travel as required


Job Type: Full-Time Salary

Salary range: 62,460 - 105,533
