Job Summary

General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS' expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We have an exciting opportunity for a Thermal Analyst in Rancho Bernardo, CA. The ideal candidate would have a strong background in heat transfer and fluid dynamics with experience performing thermal and CFD analyses for broad range of applications.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides thermal analysis for lasers, advanced sensors, nuclear and nuclear thermal propulsion, electronics, electric motors, battery systems, space payloads and orbital satellite systemss.
  • Provides practical solutions and insight to problems related to thermal management.
  • Documents findings and communicates reports and technical presentations at engineering meetings and participates in program reviews.
  • Provides technical communication within the company management and may represent the company as a technical contact to customers.
  • Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Works in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; nine or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, seven or more years of experience with a masters degree, or four or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Demonstrated expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice in the field of thermal/CFD analysis. Prior experience with closed form (by-hand) calculations is required.
  • Proficient using thermal and CFD simulation software including ANSYS Fluent, Siemens STAR-CCM and ANSYS Workbench or other similar tools is required.
  • Experience with High Performance Computing for thermal/CFD simulations is desired.
  • Experience with programing in Matlab (preferred), Python, or similar is desired.
  • Experience with conceptual sizing and detailed analysis of thermal management solutions for a variety of real-world military and industrial environments is desired.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate engineering issues, solutions, and analysis results verbally to audiences with varying technical depth and experience.
  • Must be able to effectively document and present designs, analysis and/or test results in the form of briefing packages, drawings, documents and reports.
  • Must be able to understand and apply new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance is required


Job Type: Full-Time Salary

Salary range: 105,890 - 189,545
