We have an exciting opportunity for a System Safety Supervisor within our System Safety & RAM Engineering Group.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support safety analysis of our Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS). Programs in development support the US Air Force, along with many other US and Foreign customers.
- In this role, the successful candidate will lead a team of System Safety engineers to develop, manage, and execute System Safety Programs in accordance with military and/or commercial standards
- Act as primary contact for System Safety engineering activities for assigned platforms and contracts.
- Devises new approaches to resolve unusual or complex engineering problems.
- Communicate and clearly present system safety findings, issues, and solutions to various levels of internal and external technical and management stakeholders.
- Provide system safety support for the design assurance processes, and other related milestones such as PDRs and CDRs.
- Troubleshoot conflicting design/development requirements, difficult coordination requirements, and special material requirements.
- Participate in the preparation of proposals, proposal work statements, basis of estimates, and specifications
- Ensure technical leadership and excellence is maintained by participating in the planning, attraction, selection, retention, and development of the required professional and technical talent.
- Support the Earned Value process and ensure the team is executing within budget and meeting schedule requirements
- Maintains the strict confidentiality of sensitive information.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Responsible for observing all laws, regulations and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the Company. Expected to work in a safe manner in accordance with established operating procedures and practices.
Job Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; six or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, four or more years of experience with a masters degree, or two or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Familiarity with Unmanned Aircraft Systems, including Ground Control Systems, is desirable.
- Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and, expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
- Capable of representing the organization as a prime System Safety technical contact and lead a team of moderately experienced professional employees.
- Experience with development of System Safety Program Plans, Preliminary Hazard Analysis, Functional Hazard Analysis, Common Cause Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis, Safety Critical Functional Thread Analysis, System Safety Analysis / Safety Assessment Report, clear and concise system safety requirements, and support of the Hazard Tracking System.
- Capable of managing multiple programs and responsibilities simultaneously
- Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and, determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
- Familiarity with military and/or commercial System Safety or Airworthiness standards and specifications such as: MIL-STD-882E, MIL-HBK-516C, Aerospace Recommended Practice (ARP) 4761 and 4754, STANAG 4671, 14 CFR Part 23/25, or AC 23/25.1309
- Familiarity with managing Hazardous materials as part of the System Safety process (including Hazardous Material Management Plan and Report); high level understanding of foreign Hazardous materials requirements (i.e., REACH) is desirable
- Familiarity with the methods of identifying and categorizing Safety-Significant (safety-critical and safety-related) functions and their affects within the hardware, software, and human interfaces of the design architecture.
- Understanding of Model Based Systems Engineering and Software Requirements Analysis is a plus
- Must have strong communication, computer, documentation, presentation, and interpersonal skills, ability to work independently and as part of a team; able to perform complex tasks in one or more engineering areas;
- Ability to obtain and maintain DoD security clearance is required.
