Duties & Responsibilities
- Supervise and provide technical leadership to a team of GCS engineers supporting Ground Control Stations (GCS) for GA-ASI UAV systems, including system level design, sustainment, and modernization efforts. Mentor and develop engineering staff, improving process discipline, knowledge transfer, documentation standards, and team efficiency.
- Lead cross-functional technical execution for GCS programs, coordinating multidisciplinary teams including Software Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, IPTLs, CVEs, and Program Management personnel to facilitate task completion and meet project objectives with U.S. government, NATO, and Foreign Military Sales (FMS) stakeholders.
- Work directly with Integrated Product Team Leads (IPTL) to develop and implement solutions for complex integration tasks, ensuring seamless coordination across hardware, software, and systems engineering disciplines. Collaborate with Compliance Verification Engineers (CVE) to ensure all engineering changes, designs, and deliverables meet regulatory requirements, verification standards, and customer acceptance criteria.
- Direct the development and release of engineering documentation, including drawings, Bills of Material (BOMs), interconnect diagrams, system specifications, test procedures, verification plans, and technical presentations. Review Statements of Work (SOW) and define Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) project tasks, responsibilities, and resource requirements.
- Partner with Manufacturing, Project Engineering, and Quality organizations to investigate, resolve, and close Quality Notifications (QNs), including providing technical dispositions and exercising MRB (Material Review Board) authority to implement corrective actions and process improvements. Oversee sustaining engineering tasks and work closely with manufacturing on the integration of new and existing GCS assemblies and sub-assemblies.
- Oversee and lead engineering change management and Configuration Control Board (CCB) activities, including development and execution of Engineering Change Proposals (ECPs), aligning technical scope, cost estimates (BOE/ROM), supplier impacts, and implementation strategies. Brief change packages to internal and external stakeholders, collaborating with program and customer personnel, as necessary.
- Manage obsolescence and DMSMS (Diminishing Manufacturing Sources & Material Shortages) initiatives, qualifying replacement components with suppliers and supply chain organizations to ensure long-term system availability.
- Direct proposal development activities and provide Cost Account Management (CAM) oversight, including cost estimating, Integrated Master Schedule (IMS) development, resource allocation, EVMS reporting, cost, and schedule tracking (SPI/CPI), risk identification, and mitigation planning for assigned work packages.
- Apply Risk, Issue, and Opportunity (RIO) management methodologies to proactively identify and mitigate technical, schedule, and cost risks across multiple programs. Resolve complex technical field issues across government and international customers, coordinating with engineering teams, suppliers, and field operators to deliver timely solutions.
- Deliver high-level technical presentations such as PDRs, CDRs, and program reviews to internal leadership and external customers. Interact with Program Management, IPTLs, CVEs, Manufacturing, Quality, and customer personnel to review or define project requirements, ensuring alignment with cost, schedule, and performance objectives.
- Ensure compliance with DoD/NATO acquisition requirements, security protocols, and export regulations (ITAR/EAR). Build and maintain customer confidence through collaborative execution, effective communication, and delivery of high-quality technical solutions.
Job Qualifications
- Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; fifteen or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, thirteen or more years of experience with a masters degree, or ten or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
- Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice as well as project and/or program leadership including organizing, planning, scheduling, and coordinating workloads to meet established project deadlines or milestones.
- Must posses the ability to contribute to the development of new concepts and principles; resolve unusually complex technical problems; serve as spokesperson on projects and/or programs; and be a technical expert in one or more areas of engineering.
- Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are required enabling an effective leadership interface with other departments, all levels of management, professional and support staff, customers, potential customers, and government representatives.
- Customer focused, formulates plans based on the development of innovative new designs in resolving advanced technical engineering problems.
- Must be able to work on a self-initiated basis and in a team environment. Able to work extended hours as required.
- A Professional Engineering License, original work(s) published in professional engineering journals, invited to present one or more original works to a national or international engineering symposium, and invited to Chair engineering review panels as a technical expert are desirable.
- Ability to obtain and maintain DoD Security Clearance is required.
