Generac Home is growing and hiring for a Mechanical Engineer II. In this role you be supporting cost reduction projects as assigned, including interfacing with the cross functional team members consisting of Engineering, Operations, Product Management and Sourcing. This role will support targeted projects within the Home Standby product category to deliver improved margins.

Responsibilities
- Cost reduction initiatives on recently launched products
- Reviewing existing designs to identify over-designed components and material or process waste.
- Redesigning parts and systems (e.g., brackets, airflow paths, components) and validating improvements through testing and prototyping.
- Supporting platforms such as Air-Cooled Standby Generators as part of ongoing cost reduction initiatives.
- Designs, develops, validates and delivers cost reduction opportunities aligned with application testing, product specifications and process validation plans for home standby generators and/or components; creates and reviews material part specifications and bills of materials.
- Collaborate with internal manufacturing partners, sourcing engineers, designers and product specialists to optimize designs for highest cost efficiency.
- Utilizes CAD (Computer Aided Design) or CAE (Computer Aided Engineering) systems to model new designs and produce detailed engineering drawings.
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline
- 2 or more years of relevant work experience in reducing consumer product cost to improve gross margins
- CAD and mechanical design
- Testing and validation
- Design reviews for cost reduction
- Technical documentation and reporting
- VA/VE experience in delivering improved product margins
- Design experience with a variety of materials (plastics, aluminum castings, sheet metal, etc.) and basic knowledge of material specs and use
- Experience conducting “should cost” analysis and assessing return on Investment (ROI) of cost reduction projects
- Experience with 3D modeling such as Creo or SolidWorks
- Experience with SAP or equivalent ERP
