Ag Machinery Operator and Field Tech
Job summary
Perform the operation and basic maintenance of large agricultural equipment in all stages of biomass crop production. Assist in:
- Agronomic amendments of soil
- pest control
- other land stewardship tasks.
- Annual service of tractors and implements
Summary of essential job functions
- Maintains knowledge, skills and abilities required for equipment operation and other processes assigned.
- Operate and maintain farming machinery such as tractors, balers, windrowers, and sprayers/spreaders.
- Assist in all aspects of crop production and field borders/entries maintenance within the region.
- Load and transport machinery and bales.
- Work within a team to complete tasks as weather permits to ensure timely field operations.
- Understand basic machinery maintenance and mechanical operation to limit down time and ensure safety of all involved.
Minimum requirements
- Willing to work a fluid time schedule associated with the seasonality of agriculture production.
- Working knowledge of modern agricultural equipment
- Experience with general computer/equipment interfaces and equipment operating software
- Good understanding of farm operations and growth cycle of crops
- High school diploma or equivalent, with good communication skills and ability to adapt to changing environments.
- Currently hold or willing to attain a Tennessee Department of Agriculture Private Applicators license.
- Currently hold a Commercial Driver’s License or have the ability to attain one.
- Ability to complete tasks unsupervised.
Preferred experience
- Associate degree in agriculture or 2 years of experience in farm production or a similar field.
- Large Square Baler operation is a plus.
- Experience in or education with hydraulic machinery and/or diesel mechanical maintenance.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job the employee is frequently required to talk and/or listen. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to grasp, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls, to reach with hands and arms, climb ladders and stairs up to 80 feet, balance, stoop, kneel and crouch and push or pull-on objects. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus. This position will require the use of safety equipment and clothing, including eye and hearing protection, hard hats, and respiratory protection and safety shoes. Where noise levels exceed allowable limits, hearing protection is required and provided.
