What are the responsibilities and job description for the Blast Operator position at Genco Manufacturing, Inc?
- This is a part-time role, scheduled 2–3 days per week, ideal for candidates seeking flexible hours

Core Responsibilities
- Operate abrasive blasting equipment (blast pot, cabinets, reclaim systems) to clean and prepare metal parts and assemblies
- Remove rust, mill scale, old coatings, oil, and surface contaminants per job requirements
- Select and change blasting media (steel grit, aluminum oxide, coal slag, glass bead, etc.) based on material and finish requirements
- Achieve required surface profiles and cleanliness standards prior to painting or powder coating
- Inspect parts before and after blasting for defects, incomplete coverage, or damage
Production & Quality
- Follow work orders, drawings, and production schedules
- Meet production targets while maintaining consistent quality
- Mask, plug, or protect threads, machined surfaces, and critical areas
- Communicate part issues (warping, thin material, weld defects) to supervisors or QC
- Maintain clean, organized work areas to support efficient workflow
Equipment & Maintenance
- Perform daily inspections and basic maintenance on blasting equipment
- Monitor air pressure, media flow, nozzle condition, and reclaim efficiency
- Replace worn nozzles, hoses, gloves, and cabinet liners as needed
- Report equipment issues or safety concerns promptly
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety procedures related to blasting operations
- Properly use required PPE (respirator, blast hood, gloves, hearing protection, protective clothing)
- Maintain dust control and ventilation systems
- Handle, store, and dispose of blasting media according to company and environmental guidelines
Team & Cross-Training
- Coordinate with paint, powder coat, welding, and fabrication teams
- Assist with loading, unloading, and material handling as needed
- Cross-train in related operations (wash, prep, paint, powder coat) when required
- Support continuous improvement and efficiency initiatives
