Maintenance Mechanic

JOB DESCRIPTION

This position is an essential part of Gemini’s manufacturing team. This position is responsible for installing, maintaining, repairing, and troubleshooting production, filling, and facility equipment to support operational requirements and goals. Equipment can include thermal oxidizer, HVAC, fire pump, mixers, filling line equipment, conveyors, wrappers, motors, pumps, tanks, tank washers, as well as dock and building maintenance, etc. This position performs various maintenance tasks as assigned and is responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and productive work environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform preventive maintenance inspections and service on equipment.
• Identify causes of unexpected breakdowns of machines.
• Clean, organize, inventory, stock, and otherwise maintain shop areas, parts, tools, and supplies.
• Coordinate with managers to schedule regular maintenance on machines.
• Maintain technical knowledge through training.
• Perform repairs and rebuilds as well as routine and preventative maintenance on a variety of industrial equipment, including mixers, conveyors, pumps, motors, valves, packaging lines and facility infrastructure as needed.
• Troubleshoot and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems.
• Ability to install electrical conduit, new circuits, disconnects, wire in motors as well as new equipment.
• Ability to troubleshoot and trace problems with PLCs, sensors, motors, or other electrical or communication circuits.
• Ability to cut, thread, and install black pipe as needed.
• Install and commission new equipment as required
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities in CMMS.
• Adhere to all safety regulations and procedures.
• Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
• Ability to establish relationships with vendors and technical resources.
• Ability to identify and order parts as needed to complete repairs or projects.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Requirements:

• Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
• Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without needing sponsorship for employment work visa status now or in the future.
• Must have at least one (5) years of work experience as a mechanic in a manufacturing and or/ distribution environment
• Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to read schematics and equipment manuals to repair equipment and order parts from approved vendors as necessary.
• Ability to work overtime and call-outs as needed.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Have an industrial, electrical, and/or welding certification or license.
• Have at least one (5) year of maintenance experience applying electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic concepts.
• Have a least one (2) year of work experience implementing Programmable Logic Controls (PLC)
• Experience with fabrication, electrical, hydraulic, fluid transfer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Ability to stand, walk, bend, and climb for extended periods while performing equipment maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials, tools, and equipment up to 50 lbs regularly; occasional lifting of up to 75 lbs with assistance. 
• Ability to reach overhead, work in tight or confined spaces, and access equipment positioned at floor level, mid-level, and elevated heights.
• Ability to safely climb ladders, platforms, and stairs to access equipment such as HVAC systems, thermal oxidizers, tanks, and mezzanine-level machinery.
• Ability to kneel, crouch, squat, and lie in prone positions for repair tasks on conveyors, pumps, motors, and filling line components.
• Manual dexterity required for operating hand tools, power tools, diagnostic instruments, and electrical testing equipment.
• Adequate vision (with or without correction) to read schematics, interpret gauges, identify wiring, and observe safety hazards.
• Adequate hearing (with or without correction) to detect equipment alarms, abnormal machine sounds, and verbal communication in a production environment.
• Ability to work in environments with elevated noise levels, hot and cold temperatures, and varying humidity associated with HVAC systems, thermal oxidizers, and production areas.
• Ability to wear required PPE, including safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, steel-toe boots, arc-flash gear, fall protection, and respirators when needed.
• Ability to respond quickly to equipment issues, including performing moderate to strenuous physical activity under time-sensitive situations.
• Ability to remain on-call or work extended shifts, overtime, or irregular hours as needed to support production and facility operations.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

• Ability to work around moving machinery such as conveyors, mixers, and filling equipment.
• Ability to work around chemicals, lubricants, cleaning agents, and tank-washing systems, following all safety protocols.
• Ability to work indoors and outdoors as required for building, dock, and equipment maintenance.
