Position Summary
The para/tech provides tutoring, under the direction of a certified teacher and supports all staff in the use of technology. Gem Prep seeks to hire partner teachers/paraprofessionals who have the desire to become a full-time certified Gem Prep teacher. Partner teachers are given a wide variety of responsibilities, including tutoring students in math and language arts. They will also manage elective courses under the supervision of a certified teacher. The variety of responsibilities will help partner teachers prepare to become a Gem Prep teacher, while working towards their teaching certification.
Key Responsibilities
Work with individual students or small groups of students to reinforce instruction or skills outlined by certified staff.
Assist the certified staff in devising strategies for reinforcing learning and skills based on the individual student’s needs, interests, and abilities.
Introduce online software programs, monitor student progress, and proctor curriculum-based testing and makeup work as assigned by the certified staff.
Communicate student progress to the certified teacher.
Demonstrate ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and community.
Participates in training programs and meetings.
Help with classroom cleanliness as needed.
When assigned, assist with playground duty, lunch duty, and field trips;
Support all staff and teachers in the use of classroom technology.
Document all pertinent end-user identification information in the ticket system, including name, department, contact information, and nature of problem or issue.
Prioritize and schedule problems. Escalate problems, when required, to the appropriate person.
Apply diagnostic utilities to aid in troubleshooting.
Access software updates, drivers, knowledge bases, and frequently asked questions resources on the internet to aid in problem resolution.
Identify and learn the appropriate software and hardware used and supported by the organization.
Perform hands-on fixes at the desktop level, including installing and upgrading software, implementing file backups, installing and upgrading hardware, and configuring systems and applications.

Qualifications
Aptitude for working with children, parents, and teachers
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ethical behavior
Knowledge of basic computer hardware.
Experience with desktop operating systems, including Microsoft Windows and Chrome OS.
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
Exceptional interpersonal skills with a focus on building rapport, including listening and questioning.
Working knowledge of popular diagnostic utilities.
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Ability to seek out answers through websites, forums, and other staff if they are not known.
Knowledge of basic computer troubleshooting steps, including but not limited to (wifi connectivity, printer setup, driver issues, video communications software).
