Job Description

Job Title: Shipping Clerk

Department: Shipping & Receiving

Shift: Mon.-Fri. 7:30am to 4:00pm

Reports To: Shipping and Planning Coordinator

SUMMARY

Personally engages in coordination activities of incoming and outgoing shipments. While verifying and keeping records on incoming and outgoing shipments, and preparing items for shipment by performing the following duties:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

1. Supports GEM’s commitment to providing products that meet or exceed customer quality and service expectations by checking parts and packaging products for shipments.

2. Must calculate and confirm computer counts and weights on all outgoing and incoming products. Routes product items to correct areas or storage.

3. Places poly net over or vic paper around item as indicated. Inserts items into containers. Surrounds items with shredded or peanut material as necessary. Tapes cardboard box shut. Places cartons on skid and bands as necessary. Binds containers with metal tape or bander. Shrink wraps prepared skids. Stamps, stencils, or glues identifying information to include weight- dimensions, and shipping

instructions onto crates or containers. Affixes bill of lading or shipping labels on packed cartons.

4. Schedule pickups with trucking companies, vendors and customers. Follows up on missed pick up orders to reschedule.

5. Able maintain elevated carton storage area. Degreases parts, by soaking and wiping, before shipment or treatment. Assists with deburring using belt sander or grinder.

6. Provides accurate inventory transaction information to AA for computer entry, or performs computer entries personally, using Bar Code scanner.

7. Verifies PROOF OF DELIVERY by reviewing product and noting if concerns on the delivery sheets before signing off on receiving the products. Unpacks and examines incoming shipments, including skids rejects damaged items, records weight counts and records shortages. Directs movement of all items but bar stock from receiving area to storage and work areas. Drives forklift truck to load and unload semis.

8. Prepares outside vendor shipments:

-Sign in/out for each outside operation on the production traveler

-Turn in outside supplier purchase order request form to the office admin for purchase order creation and scheduling

-Once Purchase order is ready – affix all paperwork and bill of lading as required

9. Drives company owned truck to pick up and deliver parts to and from platers, heat treaters, area vendors and customers as scheduled by the Shipping Lead or Production Scheduler. Ensures that all packages or skids are properly packaged and labeled prior to loading onto truck. Is responsible for making sure that packing slips or vendor purchase orders are signed by the customer or supplier and returning a signed copy to the office upon returning from route. Drives GEM truck to warehouse to pull parts needed for jobs, storage and shipments.

10. Issuing material to the production floor as needed.

11. Maintains Shipping Department racks and Warehouse cleanliness and organization. Pick items from inventory locations to issue jobs or ship out.

12. Assists in the shipping department packaging parts for shipment, cycle counts, inventory or shipping labels /packaging lists as needed.

Ability to establish and sustain harmonious working relations and to communicate effectively with all employees and with shipping and other vendors is essential to primary responsibilities for problem solving, safe operations, maintenance of customary tight production schedules, and realizing profit potential. Resolves conflicts in priorities.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and one to two years' related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must complete the (attached) mandatory training for this position within the initial 6 months.

MUST HAVE A GOOD DRIVING RECORD FOR INUSRANCE COVERAGE.

CERTIFICATES~ LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Fork Lift Operator's certificate required. Active Driver’s License - Good driving record.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply commonsense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Some knowledge of personal computers, printers, barcode scanning and typing skills

Mechanical aptitude helpful. Good driving record. Ability to establish and sustain harmonious working relations and to communicate effectively with vendors, shippers, and company employees is essential to responsibilities for safe operations and maintenance of customary tight shipping and receiving schedule.

ATTENDANCE

Regular attendance, with rare unscheduled absences, and no extended absences beyond about three months, is critical to maintenance of efficient operations and meeting due dates.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts. The employee occasionally works in high, precarious places and in outside weather conditions and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals.
