What are the responsibilities and job description for the RN - Registered Nurse - Perioperative position at Geisinger?
The Perioperative RN assesses outpatient needs and plans, organizes, performs and evaluates nursing activities to meet those needs.
This role is a full-time, 40 hours weekly, union position. Shifts will be 8 hours with alternating start times between 6:00 am and 11:00 a.m.; scheduling will be based on unit scheduling needs.
This position will rotate between Pre-Op/PACU and Post-Op.
Previous telemetry and/or PCU, ICU experience is preferred

Job Duties:
- Receives status report on patient from appropriate personnel.
- Receives and identifies patient.
- Performs initial nursing assessment and scoring of patient.
- Performs ongoing assessment and reports and records manifestation of patient's condition.
- Monitors and records vital signs and reports changes.
- Observes monitoring devices and reports changes.
- Reviews medical record for postoperative orders and institutes appropriate treatments.
- Administers medications according to physician orders.
- Performs discharge scoring and prepares patient for discharge in according with discharge criteria.
- Provides patient education to patient and family members and documents on nursing record.
- Assists the patient with nourishment.
- Involves ancillary support services as indicated.
- Contacts patient and significant other postoperatively to evaluate his and her progress and provide follow-up referral as necessary.
- General Assists in evaluating the quality of patient care and participates in quality improvement activities.
- Communicates with family as needed to allay patient and family concerns.
- Continually demonstrates a commitment to professional excellence through participating in meetings, committee memberships and the pursuit of continuing education.
- Orders supplies as needed.
- Maintain compliance with safety and preventative maintenance activities for all medical and technical advanced equipment to minimize failures and unsafe conditions.
- Assists with orientation, in-service programs and the supervising of students.
